This is such a gorgeous hidden gem in the "irish hills" area of Michigan. Our host did an awesome job directing us towards local lakes, beaches, and kayaking rentals. We spent some time at Hayes State Park, and Tecumseh Paddling. Ann Arbor is also less than an hour away and worth a day trip.
The short hike to your camp makes it feel like a mini adventure. The trail is fairly well maintained and marked clearly, but I would recommend wearing hiking shoes due to random surprise roots and prickers. Along the way you'll spot a variety of fungi and reptiles, and you'll realize how untouched and private this land is. We were amazed how large the campsite was, with an eating area, a firepit and a designated mulched tent spot. It was very well maintained and felt like it was a primitive site in a national park, just with total solitude and privacy.
We never had the pleasure of meeting our hosts, but they were quick to respond via text and were kind enough to bring us firewood when we forgot to ask for it earlier! The only thing that would have made this site more perfect would be logs for sitting around the fire, and if the trees were cut back a bit so you can see the stars. Other than that, we loved it and can't wait to come back again and again! Thanks!!
Milton and George are the most kind and genuine pair. They have created such a unique and peaceful little oasis, just far enough from the stress of the city! The passion they have for rehabbing animals is amazing, and each and every animal has it's own success story! Our cabin was right next to the beautiful horse pasture with a view of the sunset and the rolling hills. The bed was super comfy, and the coffee maker and fridge was an unexpected plus. We loved waking up and gazing out of the bay window watching everyone graze. The farm has a colorful variety of animals that wander around free range begging to be pet. This is a real working farm for nature lovers, with lots to explore. The communal fire pit is chill and inviting with plenty of seating and space to sprawl out under the stars! We also spent time hanging out at the pond and paddled around on the canoe too. We didn't have access to a shower, so next time i'll bring one of those portable solar showers. Regardless, I'm easy to please and usually rough it when I camp. This was the perfect "glamping" getaway for my partner and our two pups! Our trip was too short, we can't wait to come back! Thank you!!
