We stayed in one of the two rv sites with electric and water. Even though our site was close to their home, it felt private and was very quiet. (Granted, it was midweek and we were the only guests, so we had the place to ourselves.) The host was very nice and made sure we were settled, and then left us alone. The lake was very lovely and felt peaceful. Just 20 minutes from east Raleigh. I will definitely go back. Next time I'll rent their paddle boat or kayak. The tent sites were small, super basic, and right on the lake. There were a few that seemed more spacious and comfortable than the others. It felt very safe and we appreciated the quiet and lack of light pollution.
Once we got settled, we were able to appreciate our setting more. There were tidal flats and an estuary with egrets and other birds. Lots of trees. Mostly quiet and we felt very safe to leave our stuff for the day and head to Folly, only 30 minutes away.
Our host was nice but seemed a little tired and distracted. Understandable, as it's a working farm. Getting to the site you drive through some pasture muck. We were one of two campers for evening and were placed right next to the other campers. Would have preferred being spread apart; guess I should have asked.
I have a small farm myself and I enjoy primitive camping, I guess I just had different expectations my first time here.
It's definitely removed from the fray of town and safe and mostly quiet and private. And the egrets were lovely.
