My property, like most of the Fort Rock Basin, used to be under water when the entire basin was a vast prehistoric lake. The region is full of archeological and geographic wonders, and was once a center of intense volcanic activity.
When I bought the property it was untouched land, and I decided to develop it as much as possible using only my own ingenuity and my two hands. Over the 6 years of building this dream project, I have had many more creative hands than just my own contribute to it, and each amazing helper has left their unique imprint on the house and land. Everything built here has a story that stays with it. Nothing here is without history.
Rabbit Dance Ranch earned its name the first month I moved in here, while "camping" in a tarp-walled yurt in a sub-zero January. As I walked the property each day gathering dead sage branches to burn in my litttle woodstove, I noticed the many elongated footprints stamped into the crisp snow under every large sage bush. It looked like the jackrabbits were giving dancing lessons to each other every evening! As I expressed the wonders of my new home to a friend, I told him of the "rabbit dance" under the bushes, and with his suggestion the name of my future homestead was born.
We welcome you to our small but growing ranch, and hope you will breathe in the immense peace and healing beauty of this place, taking a bit of it with you in your travels!
