Johnnie and Sheri's property offers a true hill country escape. Nestled between beautiful cedar trees you can find multiple campsites that offer different amenities. The dirt road driving in may seem a bit intimidating but anyone should be able to navigate the terrain. One of our favorite features on the property lies beneath a cedar tree next to the old house. The fairy tale shower came right out of our dreams! We woke up early in the morning to beat the other campers and found ourselves alone under the cool water. The property is very secluded and it's easy to find a private site all to yourself. There are several day trip options for swimming not far from Johnnie's. Take advantage of the crisp water and then return to camp for dinner and a night under the stars.
Our time on the farm was an absolute dream. Olga and Russell were incredible hosts and actually let us experience farm life by walking the ponies and feeding the animals. Our favorite animals were the goats that greeted us immediately and hung out with us each day. The peaceful farm setting served as a great place to escape the city lights and sounds. Thank you for an amazing visit!
Johnnie’s hipcamp is the most unique site I have ever experienced. The rich history and nostalgia of this location makes it impossible to ignore. The abandoned zoo, cabins, highway, swimming “pool”, and gorgeous dam attract anyone passing through the area. I got here at sunset and began exploring in the dark with my headlamp. Sounds of ancient bears roared through the old zoo, and children’s amused laughter filled the stagnant air around me. I hiked through the woods until I found a large rock to call my own. With sleeping bag in hand I burrowed beneath a moonlit sky as shooting stars whirled around me and dreams of warm summer months cluttered my mind. A truly unique experience.
Janice is an amazing host and her generosity is above and beyond anything we had expected. My girlfriend and I arrived at the ranch late and Janice provided accommodations to help make our stay much easier. The next day, Janice gave us a grand tour of her gorgeous property and allowed us to set up camp by the pond. The site was so magestic and private that we almost forgot anyone else was there. We ate, stargazed, and relaxed every day. Everything was perfect and Janice made sure we were happy and all of our needs were met. I will definitely stay here again in the future the next time I visit the area.
