Staying at Matt’s property worked out great for us and our dogs. My son and the dogs played in the yard and on the waterfront and all had a wonderful time. We made a fire on the beach and paddle boarded in the river and on Lake Superior. There are many waterfalls and hiking trails within an hour drive. Bugs were a bit annoying but that can happen anywhere you camp! Matt and his wife were very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed our visit with them.
Nice place to stay if you are traveling through the town of Aberdeen. It has a woodsy feel and a uniqueness factor with the 130 year old Victorian home on the property. The host Margaret promptly greeted us and showed us a few options where we could put up our tent. Her sister was also kind enough to offer us coffee in the morning which we greatly appreciated.
The pros: It was nice to be able to use an indoor bathroom and shower (for an extra fee) which is in the hosts' home. A tour of the home is available and it was really neat to see what the inside was like.
The cons: the property is very close to the train yard which is extremely loud. Luckily we were equipped with ear plugs! The other con is the thistles springing up all around the campsite (at least the one we were on). Without long pants, socks, and shoes, we would have had very scratched up feet and ankles. There were also mosquitos so bring bug spray!
If you are prepared for the bugs, noise, and thistles then I would recommend this site.
The Bicycle Farm at Silver Creek was just right for us and worth going out of our way to stay in this beautiful spot! The host Tony was very friendly and helpful. The grounds were lovely with mowed trails, a garden, and lots of trees. The pull-in site is next to the host's house abut private enough with trees, soft grass, a nice fire pit, and picnic table. The host provided firewood, fresh eggs, and some salve made from their garden. The hosts' 3 dogs were very friendly. We had a great time and would definitely go back! Our only regret was not being able to see more of the trails as we had to hit the road. Thanks for the wonderful stay!
Gorgeous, pristine, area! The mowed trails through the woods and prairies made for fun walks with our kid and our dogs. Our spot by the river was just right, quiet and peaceful. We awoke to the sound of many different birds. We picked wild black raspberries off the side of the trail. I would stay here again, it was heaven.
The compound was a fun place to stay for the night with our dogs and kid. Our son enjoyed romping with the goats and chickens. Landon and Larissa were among the most friendly people I've ever met and were super helpful and accommodating since it was pouring down rain when we arrived. There is no hot shower water but we did have the opportunity to clean up a little, and look around their impressive off the grid homestead. The fresh eggs in the morning were unbeatable! I'm glad we chose to stay.
This is a beautiful and spacious site with wide open skies and fields. We had a great time, and it felt very private. There was a table and little outhouse and a platform for the tent. We felt a little exposed as the thunderstorms rolled by so that is the only safety concern. We were lucky enough to have most of the lightning stay at a distance, if it was overhead I feel like it would have been risky to stay as we were the highest point around, with the big metal shed nearby. If not severely storming I would highly recommend staying here!
