Past trip
in Mare Island Preserve, CaliforniaLoved my brief stay at Bunker Bay View. I went there on a Tuesday afternoon and the nice thing about that is that the area is basically closed to the public so it felt like I had the place to myself. I went there with my motorcycle with trailer. I got to the gate and called Myrna for the combination - got in and drove the mile to Bunker 1. Now I must say this is some of the most original campsites I've ever camped at.
The pros - great views! So much to explore. Birds! Feeling secure.
Cons - the bathroom being 1/3 of a mile away and up hill. I wondered why it couldn't be closer but then realized the road down to the bunker would make it difficult for a honey wagon to get to it so bummer there.
The road down is heavily overgrown with trees so a larger vehicle might have problems.
The wind was a challenge tent wise but no biggie.
I did a lot of walking and photography and the Ghost ship is a hoot and checking out the Yurts and the old gardens was wonderful. I will go back. Thank you!
