Past trips
Barn Door Hostel - Campground
in Barn Door Hostel, New HampshireBarn Door Hostel campsite was lovely. Picnic table and fire pit were a nice touch. Campsites were quiet past dark despite being pretty full. David’s super nice and everyone on site was really helpful. The areas beautiful and close to lots of hiking. Heads up- unless you come in a van you will not be able to drive your car to the site. You have to carry your belonging up a pretty steep hill. Not so bad, but had I known I likely would have packed a bit differently.
Cadillac Mountain View Hammocks
in Wolf Sounds and Sensations, MaineOriginally I didn’t think not being able to find a campsite in bar harbor would be the best thing to happen on our trip to Acadia. After a quick search and panicked phone call (no place to sleep) I found this spot and had it booked and confirmed in 20 min. The site was perfect, private, clean porta potty, running water, fire pit, and trees for hammock hanging. The most interesting part is this place is a wildlife preserve! The goats and the big dogs are there to greet you in the morning, the chickens roam around and the porcupines are lounging lazily most of the day. We were lucky enough to be hanging around when a wolf experience tour came through. This was very close to Acadia, and we ended up being waaaaaay happier staying here than an overbooked campground slightly closer to the park,
Must say- this is the place to stay if you’re respectful and looking for a chill experience. You’re camping privately, but you also have the responsibility of being near someone’s home as well as wild animals. They aren’t roaming the grounds by any means, but if you can’t follow the rules and be reverent of wildlife you should find somewhere else to stay.
