This was our first experience with HipCamp and only our 3rd experience at a private camp site, so we had some trepidations. However, we were very pleased with our experience. The sites were spacious and beautiful. A clean restroom was nearby. And our hosts were very hospitable. Be advised that the two campsites in the field provide no shade, so bring cover; the heat index was above 100* while there and we were not prepared with our little tent. On the second day, we were able to move to lower site by the pond which was almost perfect. I say almost because there was a lot of poison ivy on the ground which the owners appear to be trying their best to combat, but I inevitably ended up with some around my ankles. If the ivy was eradicated, it would be hands down the best site I have EVER camped at. We woke up to otters playing in the pond, butterflies and dragonflies landing on us, frogs hopping around us, and just the most picturesque scene with the water, field and sky. The location of the farm is ideal to use as a home base to explore nearby wineries, the James River and Scottsville which is small but has some unique places to stop at.
