Birdsong by day, frog song by night...

Set up camp in a cedar grove on 23 acres of rehabilitating wildlife conservation land in a country setting less than an hour from Austin. Waymeet is near yet far...convenient to get to and far enough away to have a secluded and relaxing camping experience.

Soak in country sights and sounds with a herd of four horses grazing in the pasture and the sound of the train passing (only once in a while), while you enjoy gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and a star-crowded night sky.

I am rehabilitating the property after years of abuse by the previous owner who turned it into a trash dump and gouged out huge chunks of kaliche (for road base) in order to make money. I am learning as I go, and the work is not done (as a stroll around the property will reveal). Progress is being made, though, and you'll see a difference every time you come back to pitch your tent!

Nature is assisting me beautifully, and every season has its own charm. Waymeet is a state-approved wildlife conservation property. Target species are small mammals and songbirds, and there are plenty of both in residence. I also have a small herd of deer who include me in their daily rounds, and it's not unusual to have a road runner cross your path as you stroll around.

There are 8 campsites, and two spots where two sites can combine for a larger family site. Park nearby and walk in. Each site has a picnic table, and there is a communal fire ring for your enjoyment. Fill your jugs at the potable water station. A composting toilet takes care of those nature calls.

Lots of opportunities. Deer, road runners, songbirds, and, yes, snakes (sometimes)

Terrain

Natural features you'll find at Shady Country Campsites in Texas.

Forest

The campsites are in a small cedar grove, and there are similar groves in several places on the property.

Suburban or backyard

There are houses around the property, so there is a bit of "civilization noise."

Wetlands

The bottom of the property is the last spot to dry out after rains, so it may be a bit muddy from time to time...bring boots!

Ranch

"Ranch" is a pretty dramatic description, but there ARE horses, and a pasture. I maintain the property as a wildlife conservati...Read more

This is the PERFECT weekend getaway. We absolutely loved our peaceful stay at Waymeet (Liberty Hill). Arrival was smooth and we were able to pitch our tent in a shady spot protecting us from the Texas heat. Loved seeing the horses out in the fields. The stars and sunsets were incredible!! Doeskin Ranch/Balcones wildlife refuge is very close by with hiking trails for all levels.

It was exactly the escape from the city we needed. Will definitely be back!

What wonderful campers! So friendly and upbeat, and so excited to find Waymeet, so close to the city yet so "country." I'm really glad to know they enjoyed themselves...the campsite they left behind looked like no one had been there! Looking forward to welcoming them back, hopefully sooner than later!
