We left Austin, Texas, headed east and after several hours of driving decided to crash for the night at The Trails @ Lavender Rd RV Park. It's on the north side of Tyler, Texas and was easy to get to and though we showed up in the dark a little before 8pm, our hosts were super friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see us. We’ve met a lot of people in our travels and these folks are some of the nicest we’ve run into. They made sure we helped ourselves to hot showers and the free laundry facilities and told us we could choose any RV site that we wanted to. That part was easy because all of the sites were clean, level and well-marked.
Where we stayed used to be part of the family farm but was recently transformed into an RV park. Also on site were a couple of tiny buildings that guests can stay in. A couple of them were occupied and one was complete the day we arrived but not quite ready for guests to sty in. They told us in the coming months they would be building more. We like their vision and are excited to see what the future holds for them!
As for our experience, it got down into the 20’s overnight and though we woke up chilly, we could appreciate the quiet (no generators are allowed after certain hours which makes for peaceful rest). And the cold wasn’t too big of a deal because we were able to warm up in almost no time at all inside the heated bathrooms. Speaking of the bathrooms, there’s two of them, each with hot running water and a lock on the door. For those of you who prefer glamping rather than camping, this bathroom might make all the difference for you!
For those of you tent camping instead of sleeping in your van or camper, there’s plenty of sites for you to choose from as well. We might recommend over by the lake out behind The Venue which can also be rented out for parties and/or weddings.
We highly recommend this site if you've got an RV or van and are looking for a place to regroup in your travels. Though we don't have a large RV and we're not towing anything, this site can easily accommodate those kinds of rigs. We hope you make it out there to The Trails!
