The home that hosts the Samadhi Retreat was originally built by the Browning family as an underground house based on house plans in Mother Earth News. It was made of cinderblock, rebar, and yards and yards of concrete. It was cut into the side of a hill and the entrance to the first floor is one flight down from the main parking area. The second floor was added along with the mission bell tower years later as a solution to the leaking earth covered roof. The second floor is now used as a Meditation Retreat Center.

Indoor Camping at Samadhi Retreat

My time at the Samadhi Retreat Center was so wonderful. There are trails to wander around the property and I made use of the docks for a great reading spot. David and Dawn are both as nice as can be and we had great conversations over dinner. I really enjoyed my stay in the bell tower room - it was the perfect little nook to enjoy my time.

Indoor Camping at Samadhi Retreat

Please don't tell anyone about my newly discovered secret hideaway. Samadhi Retreat sounds too good to be true, but I can guarantee you it is true and is oh-so-wonderful. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and warmly welcomed. I plan to return to Samadhi again and again. Dawn and David are marvelous human beings. We shared a delicious meal together and lots of moving stories and laughs. Samadhi is a magical highaway. From the ladder up to the bell tower to the bridges in the woods to the dock over looking the lake, you will feel like a child exploring this secret hideaway. Samadhi encourages visitors to reconnect with yourself, nature, and those around you. I am floored that this perfect and relaxing retreat is only 2 hours from Fort Worth! I will be returning in the very near future.
