Enjoy the secluded camping at our peaceful Texas Hill Country land.  This appealing terrain is home of wild animals that love the shade of the many live oak groves, persimmon, and mesquite trees.  We have raw native land with many plants that home and feed a variety of birds, butterflies, and many other Texas beauties. Seasonal birding is extremely popular in this area do to the Edwards Aquifer and Springs Preserve being adjacent. Part of this land is a rock hunters paradise.

Birds we have seen but are not limited to: Painted Bunting, Mockingbirds, Cardinals, Hawks, Falcons, Yellow Rumped Warbler, Blue Jays, Hummingbirds, Summer Tanager, Wild Turkey, Greater Roadrunner, Eastern Phoebe, Kiskadee, Belted Kingfisher, European Starling, Owls and many more native birds. (Please note the seasons will determine the birds that visit.)  We also are lucky enough to see Monarch Hatching season on our land and the Lightning bugs that come out to play during the spring and summer nights.

Downtown San Marcos is a 20 minute country drive with beautiful sunrise and sunsets.  San Marcos is home to the World famous San Marcos River that stays 72 degrees all year round and hosts the Start of the Texas Water Safari, the worlds toughest canoe race ending in the town of Seadrift, on the Gulf Coast.  Also in San Marcos the Historic Meadows Center offers Glass Bottom Boats tours to view the natural habitat at Spring Lake and the live under water Springs. (In the 1950's the Meadows Center was home of the Aquarina Springs Amusement Park which had a Submarine Theater with Mermaid performers and Ralph the Famous Swimming Pig.)

***THIS IS A GREAT BASE CAMP FOR SXSW & ACL.***

San Marcos is between San Antonio and Austin.

This beautiful area has many outdoor adventure options including numerous hiking trails, cycling & jogging options, Flying Armadillo disk golf course, Lost Paintball, Dharma Ranch Yoga, and Eye of the Dog Art Center which hosts many Clay Festivals throughout the year.

Trevor and his family were fantastic. The site is private, huge and well maintained. Trevor was a great host, he was timely, made sure everything was taken care of and provided water and a bathroom.
Great, great place and will stay there again. Highly recommend it.

We had a fantastic time! Trevor and Kimber were super friendly and communicative hosts. We appreciated that they provided firewood and a table with a sink setup with a hose for water. The campsite was tucked back into the woods, but still had some good views of the stars and a full moon. They are looking to mulch paths in the near future that will make it easier to get back to the campsite.

Rocky Top Retreat is a beautiful site in a perfect location. It is located close enough to San Marcos for easy access to restaurants but far enough where you don’t feel like you’re near a city. The site is well maintained and beautiful. Trevor is a fantastic host. I definitely recommend staying here!

This is a great place off the beaten path. Nice Live Oak and Cedar trees for plenty of shade cover or a hamic. Close to San Marcos for river fun in the day and camp fire at night. Hosted were warming and very welcoming. I would recommend this site to who ever enjoys real camping and real fun.

Guys, we did a crazy thing and decided to camp in the middle of July in Texas. And yet, I felt like I was on some bizarre planet where the weather was beautiful and not unbearably hot! Trevor communicated well and the site was exactly as described. It felt incredibly private. Yet, we were 20-30 minutes from all the places we wanted to go. There’s a sink and that made all the difference for washing dishes, brushing teeth, washing your face, etc. They provided a ton of firewood so we made a fire every night and morning. The campsite itself is shady, but there is an opening to see the stars at night. My only concern is the actual trail going to the campsite. Thankfully we own a SUV and didn’t have any trouble, but it might be difficult if you’re in a small car. Would recommend to friends!
