In May you may be lucky to spot beautiful pink roses growing on the dam--out of reach of the hungry deer. One day an elderly woman greeted my friend at the creek, explaining that she had grown up there, swimming and playing on hot summer days long before any of us discovered this paradise. She explained that her father had planted these roses some 90 years previous in the perfect spot apparently as they are thriving there today. We named this special place after her and her daddy's roses, so name The River Rose Retreat.
