If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Lolly and her partner Brandon are the hosts of Rancho Relaxo which is just 15 minutes outside of east Austin, Texas. Their site is already super cool and though it’s still a work in progress, we think their long-term vision is a great one and we can see this being a really fun place to camp for those looking to getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. We really appreciated how clearly the site was marked with signs. It was set up so that if you arrive at night or when neither host is home, you know what to do and where to go.
There’s three RV sites with electric and water and a ton of space for camping. All of the sites are relatively level so you have a lot of places to choose from. We liked the spot over by the chickens and the composting toilet! When we visited they had just recently had a Friends Festival and we could almost feel how fun it would be to stay here with a group of friends. There’s a small stage for live music, a hammock (Lolly has several more that she puts out when the weather is nice and people are coming over), lights for nighttime ambience and a bunch of artwork that gives the place a really unique vibe to it. Oh and the dogs are as sweet as can be so if you love pups, this is an added bonus!
For those of you that like to paddle, note that access to the Colorado River is just a few miles away from Lolly’s site.
One of the reasons we enjoy Hipcamping so much is because of the people we meet on our adventures. We felt an instant connection to Lolly. She sent a dozen eggs with us from the chickens that she’s raising and we left feeling excited to make the return trip to her place sooner rather than later.
Rancho Relaxo was a nice, relaxing spot far from the hustle and bustle of Austin, yet close enough we drove into the city every day we were there. Lolly and Brandon are perfect hosts - with great local recommendations. They want everyone who stays on their land to have a good time!
I also have to mention how awesome the compostable toilet was! They built it themselves and it's wonderful :) Highly recommend the spot!
My stay at Rancho Relaxo was great! Lolly is a very attentive host! She walked me around their spot and made sure I knew where everything was. The whole place has a really nice vibe. I enjoyed hanging out with the chickens as I set up camp and cooked dinner. As others have said, the outhouse is really cool haha. I'll definitely try to stay here again when I come back to visit Austin.
We had a wonderful stay at Rancho Relaxo. Lolly was very accommodating with us arriving in the wee hours of the morning. One of the nicest composting toilets I have ever experienced and just an all around good vibe.
Lolly was so friendly and easy to communicate with + we loved the chickens! The space itself wasn't the very best in terms of camping - there were a lot of bugs and the cicadas were incredibly loud. It may have been the time of the year, which is not their fault at all, but it was definitely a lot more of a rural experience than staying at a campground.
Lolly was polite (I didn't get to meet her) and Brandon was really friendly and helpful. Lots of lush greenery and trees. Walk to the outhouse was easy enough, even in the dark! I think more pictures could be helpful - the only pics on the site seemed to be from one or two campers during the winder months, so the environment appeared a little sparse. Would have liked to have maybe been a little further away from the owners' home, felt a bit like we were camped in their backyard (which I suppose we were!). Neighbors in surrounding areas have dogs that barked all night, there was a main road not too far away so we could hear cars constantly, and there was music coming from somewhere (although I didn't mind that as much). I would recommend this spot definitely for those with an RV or who can sleep through anything. Tent camping wasn't quite as get-away-ish as I'd hoped. Still a great value and kind hosts.
