We're a five acre piece of an historic Texas ranch in Southwest San Antonio, just 20-minutes from downtown, sitting along the Medina River. Come for the day or stay the night for some primitive camping. We've got plenty of room for tents, roof-top-tent setups or car/van dry-camping. We’re currently in the building/restoring process, but we’ll have some electrical, drinking water, fire pits, plenty of shade, compost toilets, water in the river, and plenty of good vibes.  Old Herrera Ranch has been in our family since the early 1800's and holds a lot history. A couple of our old buildings, the "jacals", are dated from around the 1830-40's. You'll also see the old "Dance Hall" which is great for hanging out or even some cover if it rains. They say that Santa Anna's army, invading from Mexico, may have crossed through our area on their way to the Alamo. This may be because our part of the river includes some of the more shallow areas of the Medina River. For more information, feel free to take a look at our page on the San Antonio Conservation Society's website https://farmandranch.omeka.net/exhibits/show/blasherreraranch We use Hipcamp to help maintain, preserve, and restore the land my family loves so deeply. We're excited to share it with you and see what all we'll be able to do. Thank you in advance for your support! Nice little spot. Had a little issue with the other tenants not having their dogs on a leash but that’s not anything Dax’s did. He was an awesome host and made sure we had what we needed. Really enjoyed the river and the eclipse. Thank you Dax for being a great host. We will definitely be back.

Slice of paradise
Old Herrera Ranch is a great place to camp. The host, Dax, is very friendly and proud of this piece of paradise that’s been in his family so long. Very peaceful and beautiful. The small beach down at the river has huge cypress trees and is gorgeous. You will also find the old cantina , dance hall and jacals very interesting. Don’t miss out!

Beautiful Property!
The land was beautiful! My family and I camped for 3 days on his property & were the only ones there during that time, which made it extra pleasant. We would definitely camp there again! A few things to note: 1) The only toilet is a compost toilet to be used when going #2 so bring toilet paper if you’re a lady needing to go on a tree. 2) It is near an interstate so bring some noise canceling headphones if you have trouble sleeping with those types of noises. 3) There is a nice big communal campfire area. We ate 4 meals there and it was so pleasant under the trees. 4) There is a “dance hall” where we could charge our phones which was a nice surprise. 5) The creek is an easy walk from the campsite. My kids loved playing in the creek despite it being chillier when we camped.

Old Herrera Ranch - Medina River
Our camping adventure on Dax’s land was nothing short of magical. Being so close to the Medina River allowed us to enjoy numerous refreshing strolls and swims, adding a serene backdrop to our stay. The campsite, with its prime view of the stunning sunsets, featured an impressively large fire ring that became the heart of our evenings. Exploring the property, we were charmed by the quaint old structures and captivated by the enchanting dance hall, which, under the glow of string lights, provided an idyllic setting for night-time revelry. Our experience was delightful, and we're already looking forward to our next visit.
