The vibe at Mariposa
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
I love how quirky Mariposa is. It was fun to see the architecture of the buildings as well as the interesting signage created by a local artist in Amarillo. The terrain is beautiful and is a great spot for hiking. The host has recommendations of where to set up camp but you are free to roam certain areas as desired. If you love picking your own spot to camp, this is your place. The opportunities and options are endless.
Very nice host! I've camped my entire life and it is always helpful having wonderful hosts. I think the campsites could use better development (e.g., more leveled ground) but other than that it is great location for camping and watching sunsets.
Absolutely gorgeous view!! Far enough from the hustle and bustle to enjoy, yet close enough to get what you need from the city. I enjoyed every breath-taking moment! The drive-in site was nice (no hiking to get to the location). Could not have gone any better!
Mariposa is such a great place to camp! I highly recommend you check it out. The site is perfectly private and the views are lovely! It’s not far from the bustling northwest edge of Amarillo, but you wouldn’t know it when you’re at the site. The lights of the city are far enough away to afford enough a good amount of darkness to view the stars at night. A., the owner and main contact, was a wonderful host; after they introduced us to our site they were appropriately hands-off.. Additionally, It was easy to get in touch with A when we needed to. We communicated well and I always received a quick reply. If I’m in the area again, I look forward to booking this site a second time! One thing to note: at night, it’s really easy to miss the Mariposa street sign on the main highway. I passed the sign going both north and south due to the darkness. Once you find the turn-off, however, the gate is right there so there’s no possibility of getting lost beyond that. Overall, the Mariposa campground is awesome. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area. It’s worth it!
