This listing is for those whose priority is an unobstructed view of the night sky for stargazing, astronomy and meteor shower viewing! Our dark skies provide a great display on clear nights, not to mention stunning sunrises and sunsets. A compost toilet is provided. Campfires are not permitted at this site, however, a Weber grill is provided. Bring your own charcoal. Our 12 foot, canvas round tent is pitched and ready to use! Two twin bed platforms are provided in the tent, just bring your own sleeping pad and bedding. A short walk takes you to our beautiful natural pecan orchard on the San Saba River where you can enjoy swimming, fishing and canoeing. (We ask that during this pandemic, you practice social distancing with our family and campers at other sites.) As we are a working farm, you may hear roosters crowing or goats bleating-- book a tour to meet our animals and learn about the history of this property and our practices and plans for Indigenous, restorative agriculture. This farm has been in my family for five generations and is the traditional homeland of the Tonkawa, Lipan Apache and Comanche. We honor the legacy of those who came before us while planning a future of ecological agriculture that will provide sustanence and growth for years and years to come. Low Gear Farmstead is a safe, welcoming place for POC and folx who identify as queer in any way.

This spot is worth it. Big camp spot with privacy. Host was great and she took time to welcome us. We wished we could have had more time to explore the property; but had to head to the state park for our next night. We will be back.

Low Gear Farmstead is a very peaceful spot. Logan provided excellent hospitality while also maintaining a suitable, safe distance to experience the natural surroundings and the beautiful dark skies at the spot. This site has no shade so be prepared to either rise early or sleep out of doors in order to be comfortable in warmer temperatures. I spent most of my time outside of the tent thanks to the wonderful Orionid meteor shower. Dark skies abundant.

A beautiful eddy in the San Saba River awaits.Roughing it at site #3 - the stargazer's suiteSunset under the mesquite trees. The drive to the campsite is through abundant natural Prickly Pear Cactus
