Remote Bunkhouse - Lone Mound Ranch
Convenient despite rats (& poison)
Ultimately, the bunk house was a much needed reprieve from the wind as we road tripped for the solar eclipse. However, we were surprised to find rat poison under one of the beds as the site is listed as pet friendly, and we registered as having 3 dogs with us. Subsequently, we were less surprised to hear a rat nibbling in the wee hours of the morning, taunting us in the pitch black.
*rustling in the dark*
“…is that you?”
“…it’s the rat…”
Additionally, the hosts dogs were running loose and greeted us at our site, which we were not expecting.
Despite the unexpected friend(s), we’d consider this place again to avoid tenting in harsh weather.

Beautiful Spot
Lone Mound Ranch was a beautiful piece of property. The only thing that could have made it better- was it being sunny while we were there.
Lana was very accommodating and very informative about her land. Our kids loved the area as they could ride their dirt bikes on the property.
We also bought some steaks from Lana for supper and they were delicious. Would definitely like to come back to stay if we are ever in Shamrock, Texas.

Remote Southwest Hillside Cabin
Had a great time. Relaxing, quiet, and comfortable. I appreciate everything about the mission to source grass fed beef free of impurity at Lone Mound Ranch. We enjoyed family time around the fire and even brought out for home boards so the coyotes had something to snicker at.

Convenient pit stop off the highway
Great stop 5 miles off the highway, easy to find the turn in to the ranch. Would stay again.
