Little Swede is the host of the site named after him, Little Swede's! His place sits just a short drive (6 miles) from the downtown section of Fredericksburg, Texas. When we arrived we drove over a cattle grate and were greeted by the sound of friendly pups who raced around their section of the fence, eager to say hello. Little Swede appeared almost immediately with a friendly hello. He’s a nice, affable guy and was happy to show us around his property which has been in his family for quite some time. He pointed us down a lane that’s part grass, part gravel, part dirt and helped us find a level spot for our van, right next to two vintage Volkswagens!

In addition to where we parked, Little Swede told us about other sections of his property and encouraged us to go for a walk around, which we did. We found a cool campsite with a fire pit a few steps away and though where we parked is probably the easiest place for those camping in cars or vans, there’s several really cool and private tent sites just across the wash past the fence. When we visited, the grass was tall but we didn’t mind, it made the place feel wild in the best sort of way. In addition, there are cacti in lots of random places so keep your eyes peeled when you’re walking around!

We recommend this place for anyone who lives near Austin and is looking for a place to getaway for the weekend. We also recommend it for travelers who want a camping experience and still want to enjoy nightlife and breweries in the town of Fredericksburg!
