Great spot by the beach

What a great little spot by the beach, the drive from Houston wasn’t much further than it is to go to Galveston or Surfside but it is so much more quiet & relaxing especially at night so is well worth the little extra driving time. The spot is exactly as described, there is a sizable concrete pad with posts to hang a solar shade that is kept in a plastic tub by the wooden deck, which was easy for me to hang (I’m tall & handy) but may be a challenge for some, a picnic table (not the burned looking one as pictured but a new one) and water & power hookups (just don’t forget to flip the breakers for the power).

There is a narrow, private walkway to the beach that only takes about 30 seconds to traverse and you will be lucky to see more than a handful of people walk by on the beach each day. Unfortunately it was a very high tide while we were there and it was quite windy with a strong onshore flow so the water wasn’t safe for swimming but I still had fun with our dog playing in the shallow water in the waves.

Across the road from the campsite (the island is very narrow) is the Intracoastal Waterway so it was neat seeing barges and other boats go by. All in all a very peaceful & relaxing stay and I will definitely be back.

This was a great getaway for our small family as we broke in our new little camper. The concrete pad was large and provided a great base for any size camper. There is a large picnic table and a raised platform that was perfect for stargazing. They had some constructed steps that you could move around as well, but we didn't need them. Electrical and water hookups were very easy.

The best part was definitely having access to a great gulf beach without much pollution. We went to the beach three times and only saw one or two other people. It felt like we had an entire beach to ourselves. It's a quick 30-second walk across a footbridge from the concrete pad.

In one of the photos you can see a large sun-shade. That wasn't up when we stayed here, but it would be a great addition if the hosts want to add it.

The bugs (flies and mosquitos), predictably, could be a bit tough if there wasn't much of a wind. But that has nothing to do with the hosts. Some strong bug spray helped, when applied.

We'll definitely be coming back if it's available next time we want a gulf beach trip!

Top of my bucket list to return!

If you have a bucket list, put Jeff’s piece of heaven at the top! Beautiful, peaceful, private, relaxing...there are not enough words for this almost surreal experience at the beach.

Jeff has created a perfect spot for RVers, van dwellers, tent campers and probably even camel riders. The picnic table and shower are brand new. Jeff works on his land constantly. The pad is huge, clean and complete with two sets of stairs to disembark. I even got to scrub down my van! The tent pad was our favorite place to hang out (second only to the beach). It’s big and perched up high enough to allow you to sit and watch the ocean, the pelicans and the big tugboats on the other side. And oh, did I enjoy the shower! It’s not ice cold, but definitely refreshing.

You must come and walk and play or run on this beach. It’s so private, it’s ridiculous. We ran into five people in four days. And yet, if you need anything at all, the folks down the way are friendly and Jeff, well Jeff gets his own paragraph.

Jeff is so friendly and helpful and fun. From the very start, he was warm and welcoming. He answered all my questions almost immediately prior to my arrival. He not only sent detailed directions, he helped me out more by sending pictures with captions for each milestone and turn. (I’m directionally challenged.) I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff and his pup. He made sure I had everything I needed, gave me ideas for additional places to go in Texas and then just sat and talked. I loved meeting him and oh, my dog Georgie played and played with his dog. I can’t say enough about this superstar host.

If you have a dog, by the way, you have no choice but to come here. Georgie was the happiest she’s ever been, exploring, running, swimming, chasing pelicans and other sea birds.

I’m going back as I’ve added his place back at the top of my bucket list. Thank you and beyond, Jeff!

Jeff was great! Site was great! highly recommend;). We have 2 young kids, so it was a bit tricky getting to the beach over the erosion barriers on the coast, but we figured it out and had a great time.

The site was perfect and made for a great getaway. We felt like we had the ocean all to ourselves. Jeff’s communication was excellent as he answered every question we had before and during our trip. We booked a return trip while we were sitting on the beach!

Very remote and peaceful. We only saw 2 people the entire time we were there. The tide was very high and we never saw beach at the site, but nonetheless very much enjoyed the amazing views and crashing waves. We drove 1.5 miles west to Sargent beach for some sand. The site is well maintained, the tarp was crucial for some shade and the shower has excellent pressure.

Response from Jeff, the Host, on June 14th, 2020

Sadly there seems to be less and less sand on our beach. Sargent is one of the fastest eroding beaches in the state. There are rumors that they are going to be putting in jettys or something to help next year, but who knows. So glad you had fun! Please come back when you can!

Jeff's place is wonderful. Not much beach as he states, but it doesn't matter as the rest is magic. Just be sure to pack your bug spray and sunscreen. We were sad to have to leave! We look forward to returning! Pro Tip: Do not miss the daiquiris on the way in at Flamingo Lin's!
