(PLEASE NOTE:)

Out of fear & caution over the Covid 19 virus spread, our local County officials have ordered essentially all tourist related businesses in the Big Bend closed for a while. We need to comply, for now and have blocked out reservations for the month of April. Once this all stabilizes, we will reopen for reservations and of course, you may make reservations into the future, just not right now.

While we are closed, we will continue to make improvements to our two campgrounds that will include new toilets, bathhouses, kitchens and guest cottages. These will be completed for Summer. Be cautious and be safe and book a stay here as soon as we all are able!

Located on our scenic 20 acre, working poultry/goat/aquaculture ranch, this are was created for those camping & traveling on a strict budget. It is for tent, "under the stars" and "sleep in my vehicle" campers only.  We have built a dam across the arroyo you will overlook, to create a desert wetland for wildlife.

We are constructing (as of February 18th) a combination toilet, shower, bathhouse on the campground. Once this is completed, we will adjust the price per night slightly, but still be lower than out main campground and will still accept only tent, "under the stars" and "sleep in my vehicle" campers only, no trailers or RVs.  .

You will be on the other side of our beautiful 12 acre arroyo from the main compound, secluded & private with the same gorgeous views of our part of the Texas Chihuahuan Desert as the main campground. The only real difference will be no trailers allowed and there MAY not be WIFI to that location. What makes this site unique is that you are right on the arroyo and its views. There is even a mini-mesa with several camping sites where you will have the arroyo on three sides!

Most mornings we offer you coffee & pastries at the main house. There is no charge, but donations are always welcome!

You will be about 25 miles from the gates to Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park, about a 45 minute drive. But you will not have noisy "neighbors", generators or traffic!

NOTE:

Some of the campsites will have a view of the back of the dam. This dam was created using our "THREE R" philosophy of "REUSE, REPURPOSE & RECYCLE everything, so as to RESPECT the planet. Therefore, the back of the dam is constructed using discarded tires, leftover from an Earthship project. So if you find used tires ugly, you should choose a site away from the dam...… but the dam HAS kept nearly 500 tires out of landfills!

Loved our stay! Exactly as described! Host was nice and the scenery is great. We were the only campers so we got the pick of lots!

Robert and Debbie are wonderful hosts and we had a great time at the campsite. We opted to camp there because Big Bend campsites were full, and ended up realizing that this was a great alternative to being around crowded NPS campsites, especially given all the RVs and campers at Big Bend. We stayed at a campsite close to the ranch and there is a lot of farm animal noise as explained in other reviews, so just be sure to bring earplugs or be prepared for the racket if you camp close by. Noise aside (which was not a major issue for us), we loved being at the site, enjoyed learning about what Robert and Debbie are doing, and even got to meet a couple of newborn baby goats. I recommend it as a great place for solitude and scenery!

Robert was a gregarious host who invited the whole campground over for salad and chicken wings. Our site had a nice fire pit and this was a very fun and accommodating place to stay.

Many of the sites like ours were also close to the main house, and the birds (geese, roosters) make plenty of noise at night and in the early morning. There are newer campsites farther away on a mesa on the other side of an arroyo, which looked quite picturesque. These were less developed at the time we visited, but could be a better option for light sleepers.

I loved my stay at the eco-ranch! It’s an eclectic place in a beautiful setting. Robert is a great host and his dog, Cascade (the smiling dog), is a sweetie. I would definitely stay here again!

This place ROCKS. Robert and Debbie are wonderful hosts who are willing to chat all about how they are building a sustainable house or about anything else. They are so friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The site is stunning and has great views all around, as well as a mountain you can hike up! I can’t wait to come back here to camp again.

We were originally planning to camp in Big Bend but opted to stay here instead. A great choice, would definitely recommend! Robert is a welcoming host, and very knowledgeable about the area. His place is not far from the park, and is worth exploring itself. We spent one day of our trip hiking around the campsite. Would like to come back sometime!

This is truely an amazing remote desert camping experience. There is virtually no light polution and hardly any clouds so you will see more stars than you knew was possible. You hear the coyotes at night and the roosters in the morning. The host was very accommodating as well. He recently got rid of the toilet facilities but is in the progress of building a new comode.
