Private and peaceful
Before heading to the location, Francisco stayed in touch to make sure we got settled alright, warning us of the downhill path to the site. That was an adventure in itself! Once we were down by the lake, it was as peaceful and private as I’d hoped as well as a nice surprise of horses who greeted us shortly after! I felt comfortable from start to finish and this was my first experience with using Hipcamp, so thank you so much for the great first impression!
Beautiful views of the river!
I had a great and relaxing time during my overnight stay at the Colorado River Camp. Francisco, the host was excellent at giving directions to the place when I had gotten a little turned around. Beautiful views of the river and lots of fish, even though I didn't manage to catch anything. There are horses walking around but they never bothered me. I really enjoyed my time there and would definitely go back again. Highly recommend!
Don’t rely on your gps
Don’t rely on your GPS to get you there. Use the directions in the additional notes and they will get you right to the gate. Don’t let the first impression by the gateway fool you, once you get down into the camping area it is very beautiful and quiet. I had a wonderful 3 days relaxing and canoeing on the river!!
Thieves in private property
I have to admit, my site was ransacked by thieves everyday. Little by little they stole every last one of my belongings except the tent. Eventually I slept elsewhere.
I think the thieves were alerted when Francisco, the host blocked the driveway with his truck and washer which left me to park near his home.
The neighbors shine their headlights at me in the mornings and night. And though I thought it would be private, it was at times a shared site. It's about a 10 minute walk to the site if you don't have the right vehicle. I could have overlooked anything except the theft.
The property is covered with junk like a junkyard and horse shit.
This place is amazing. River access and plenty of spots for multiple sites without being to close to anyone else. It's dark and peaceful. You should definitely check this one out. Francisco is a good guy doing anything he can to improve. Great host.
