Description

Brush up on your constellations before venturing out to this primitive four-person camp! Windmill Back Pack Campground is just far enough from civilization (potable water, toilets, people, light) at .9 miles from facilities, but is close enough that a trek for fresh water in the morning will be the perfect way to warm up your hiking legs. Though fires aren’t permitted here (containerized fuel stoves are allowed), the stars will make a great substitute, don’t ya think? Spend a few days at this camp, and you’ll be singing songs of sweet, sweet solitude.

Sites 1, 5, and 7 have the most privacy, with long trails leading off the path to more remote sites (stay with the paths to their end - you'll be glad you did). Site 4 also has a long winding path, but strangely winds up near Site 8 and not far from the trail.
Site 3 is picturesque, under a large single oak close to the trail. Sites 2, 6 and 8 are also just off the trail but with decent surrounding trees for hammocks.
The Windmill trail is an easy path, so for a more challenging hike you can do some of the trails on the East side of the park and take the Gorman-Windmill connection trail over.
