Stars are amazing.  Post oak springs pond has water only in the spring.  Only 2 hours from San Antonio or Austin and 4 from Dallas/Fort Worth area. $15 per person even for the day because

It’s $15 per person per night. How do I know who stays after dark? Do I check at your camp for a head count? What if they love and have traveled this far to hang with y’all for the day, driven a car, or two or idk, learned the gate code? Also, I would not be covered under Hip camps $1,000,000 insurance policy because the guests were not mine. So, as you can see, as a land owner, offering an excellent opportunity to share 30 private remote acres with the world I have to charge $15 per person on each person entering the property. It is very very well worth the experience. Thank you for your interest

We had such a wonderful time at the Ranch. We showed up with 4 kids under the age of 9 in tow and Janice was so amazing. The property is beautiful, Janice is such a lovely host. Bathroom and outdoor shower are very helpful and more than we expected. We will definitely return again soon!

Solitude Sanctuary is a unique, eclectic property with so many fun features. The host, Janice, built the house herself on land that has been in her family for over 100 years! Janice was sweet and hospitable from the get-go - we loved getting a tour of each room and hearing stories about her family history. Every room is full of personal touches that make the space feel like home. I loved the yoga and meditation loft upstairs! With multiple rooms and bathrooms and a HUGE kitchen and living room area, this house would be perfect for a large group. Janice graciously shared her dinner of rice and venison sausage with us that night, which we demolished a few bowls of each (I can’t guarantee a delicious homemade dinner for other campers, though:) )

We did not stay in the house, but instead set up our tent on the property. With over 30 acres of land on the property, there is plenty of room to set up your tent however close or far away from the main house you choose. We set up our tent down by the pond, which is about 400m away from the house (the perks of this spot are easy access to the bathroom/outdoor shower and the reflection of the starry night in the pond). After chowing down on Janice’s homemade meal, we got in the hot tub and star gazed for well over an hour. The night sky was incredible - there is hardly no light/sound pollution from the nearby town of Castell, so we felt very much immersed in the outdoors. This property is a great home base for further exploration into the nearby town of Fredericksburg or Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.

Janice is working on several different projects on the property - several outhouses for future campers, a garden, an orchard - so there were tools and bags of mulch stacked around the house. But the construction never interfered with our experience! We had a great time, and I can’t wait to visit this property again in the future.

Great place, friendly host. Only 2 hours from Austin for dark skies. Will definitely go back for the dispersed camping and night sky.

Overall, a fine place if you're looking for basic camping.

If you're looking for a private place to pitch your tent, there's plenty of room but the property had a lot of cactus so you have to be careful what spot to pick. I appreciate the ability to camp anywhere on the property but it was a bit tough finding a suitable spot that was level and cactus-free.

There was water and a fire pit as advertised but it wasn't super well marked or indicated so you may not be sure what/where to use things. And, I was there in late February so it may be "off-season" -- some things looked winterized or stored.

No complaints, host was responsive in terms of directions and how to access. There were cabins/rooms on the property that I did not utilize and these may offer a more quaint experience.

Absolutely beautiful spot! Very secluded and nice and quiet at night. The stars are amazing out there and I’ll definitely be bringing a telescope next time.

The area from most of the photos is in plain sight of the main house. Luckily it was empty the night we stayed there.

If you want privacy, tree cover, and the hosts are staying in the house, this might not be the campsite for you.

Quiet, far removed from the main roads and traffic noise. The blessed absence of other campers was wonderful. Never saw the hosts, just texted. I suggest you need a truck or suv, and arrive while there's plenty of sunlight, because you will need to explore a little bit to find the best campsite. This is really roughin it. Bring water for washing up, as well as drinking. No campfires, so bring your campstove or grill. Deer and armadillos, birds and rabbits will visit; stay quiet if you want to see them.
I came here to visit Enchanted Rock, but they had no sites available at the park. Aat the Ranch was the closest alternative; still, I drove nearly an hour on miles of unpaved ranch roads to get to the Rock. (Pleasant drive, lots of cattle and wildlife. Good views.)
I definitely wouldn't bring small kids, since there are lots of sharp thorny things like cactus and mesquite. Jeans and boots for sure.

Inviting and calming private oasis. Janice was just beyond helpful and welcoming to me and my partner. The road to the ranch was relaxing to go down and sets the mood for a relaxing stay. Check in was easy and we had a nice quiet night with just nature and a breeze.

Janice has a great location west of Llano. we were lucky in our timing as there were still wild flowers in bloom and butterflies all over the place. The frogs seemed to be having a party at the pond, we chose to not sleep there as it seemed that they would be going at it all night long ;-). The whole place is open for you to choose where to camp. It was nice to have access to water although we could not figure out the electrical...The Lyrids meteor shower was a little clouded over but we still loved just combining with nature.
Highly recommend.
