I'll start by saying that our family had a great time and James and his wife were super accommodating! He was quick to respond to our camping request and answered all of my questions. The creek and the farm animals were lots of fun for our kids. The hosts helped my kids feed all of the animals, and even bought my 6 year old daughter a birthday present when they found out that it was her birthday! They were very eager to please. The cottage has many amenities: washer/dryer, full kitchen, bathroom, TV, wifi, A/C. In terms of amenities, it exceeded my expectations. The only negative, in my opinion was the cottage itself. It's just not in great shape. The back porch is kind of rickety and the bedroom has a musty smell. But if you're not looking for a luxury cabin, it's fine. Also the house can comfortably sleep 4 - there is a queen bed and a sleeper sofa. So if you have more than 4 in your party, you'll want to bring an air mattress or something. Overall we had a great stay. My 6 year old did NOT want to leave! For the nightly rate, this place is a great value and you won't find nicer hosts!

Response from James, the Host, on July 17th, 2020

Thank you Lesley for your thoughtful review! We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and we enjoyed hosting you as well! We agreed with you, the bedroom did have a musty smell so we have now renovated the bedroom. We removed the carpeting and replaced it with vinyl plank tiles, installed shiplap pine boards on the ceiling, and added a ceiling fan. I am happy to report that removing the carpet took care of the musty smell! Thank you again for choosing Brookside Cottage for your getaway and we would welcome you back anytime!

Outdated, but comfortable and simple is the best way to describe it. Everything you need is provided. Host is very accommodating. Cinder the cat has a pleasant character. Not much to do other than hiking, nearest town is 15 minutes away. Just what I was looking for.
No frills type of place.

What a great cottage to stay in. We were traveling so we didn't get to see as much as we would have liked. But we loved sitting on the back deck watching the birds and enjoying the stream. It was quiet and comfortable.
We would love to come back sometime!

The cottage was great. Perfect for a quiet weekend getaway from the city. Not too far from any necessities you might need and easy to find. Definitely will be back!
