The vibe at Firefly Ridge Tennessee
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Laura has big plans for Firefly Ridge, a gorgeous 30-acre spot she began leasing 11 months before our visit. I had a blast getting to know her. She graciously poured us a couple glasses of wine on the farmhouse patio as she took us through her plans: a series of concerts on the lawn, dinner gatherings with fresh produce and bread she plans to bake in house, a bathhouse for campers, and a small gallery to show off and sell local art (which she's already put in place). Her house has a few extra rooms that she rents - she encourages campers and renters alike to mingle and enjoy each other's company. She also welcomes campers to use the laundry if needed - the perfect bonus after a long and smelly camping stint. There are so many areas on this site to camp - we chose a flat spot fairly close to the house and chickens (closer to porch coffee in the morning!), but you could also snag a patch of grass much further away in one of the forested areas (just watch out for poison ivy!). We really enjoyed watching all of the animals from the farmhouse porch - wild turkeys, cardinals, fireflies, and monarch butterflies all came out the evening of our visit. She even has plans to make the farm an official Monarch rest stop during the migration because so many visit already. Her chickens and ducks are incredibly cute and fun to feed. We would love to visit again - her hospitality and kindness are unparalleled! The outstanding Great Smoky Mountains National Park is incredibly close, making this the perfect respite to get away from the Park's madness in the summer with a more private and serene experience.
Good spot if you're looking for a place to camp and all the sites at smoky mountain national park are taken. Laura was sweet, and helped us get settled. There's a grill, table and fire pit. However, there's no bathroom. Laura was gracious enough to let us brush our teeth inside her house before bed.
Firefly Ridge was the first experience for my friend and I with hipcamp and it was truly great. Laura was a fantastic host and went out of her way to make our stay more enjoyable. The location is beautiful and we had a relaxing night.
Make sure to say hi to the chickens she keeps when you are there!
