The story of establishing Fantastic Beiling Farm... Thanksgiving 2013 my husband, Mike, and I were driving through a rural area on the way to family Thanksgiving dinner. As he had done many times before, Mike was admiring the rural properties we were passing. From the time we were married in 1987 up until that point, in 2013, we had always been city dwellers (although I grew up on 40 acres of land, with animals. I remember chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, and 3 baby calves).
In 1996 Mike (at 36 years old) had a stroke, and although he survived and made a tremendous recovery in many ways, he was still left with quite a few challenges. Just a little background so you'll understand that when I'm driving and he's admiring rural properties and many times asking for a golf cart to drive around, it never occurred to me until that day in 2013 that maybe this is something he would want me to look into.
This began the prayerful search for a rural property where my husband could drive a golf cart and I might be able to get a few chickens and maybe a couple goats. After much prayer, we were led to this property which seemed perfect to suit our initial goals. It even had a fully decked-out handicap accessible master bath! As it turned out this property was already under contract when we found it and it was the ONLY rural property within our budget and location parameters (we have to stay within a close parameter of our church, Remnant Fellowship in Brentwood, and our church family, as well as just being close to town due to my husband’s needs). But the miracle was that within a few days we were informed that contract had fallen through and we were next in line. Our Realtor, Brandon Hannah, had tremendous favor from the listing agent and specifically wanted his client, us, to have first shot at this property.
Everything fell into place. We were tentatively moving forward, desperately wanting to find God's lead, ready to turn back at any hiccup, ready to take that as a sign from God to turn back. After all, our house wasn't even on the market yet and and this as a concept seemed like such a leap and major change. But there were so many unbelievable things that just fell into place, and before we knew it, we homesteaded and established Fantastic Beiling Farm in February 2014, and had our first 3 goats and 5 chickens by May of 2014. This story continues to unfold.
