This spectacular area of rural rolling hills is considered the foothills of Appalachia is mostly farm country. Pitch your tent amongst dense forested area or along an open pasture steps away from a bluff overlooking the river. The river bed is accessible along a tree-lined trail about 3 stories below. This is the perfect exit spot for your kayaking adventure (drop in about 5-8 minute drive and spend about four hours on the river) or just spend time in the unique swimming hole spot where the River bends. (Working on a pulley system to bring your equipment up the hill from the river bed, until then you will need to be able to carry out).
You may also choose to be a little bit closer to the animals and utilize a platform for your tent, or for those wanting a glamping experience there is a fully furnished lodge on the farm side of the retreat. There you can interact with our donkeys, camp cats, rabbits and hens. A lovely treehouse for camping is in the works this year.
This is a very private area however past the trees are a few neighbors. It's not a place to party, tailgate, rock it out all night because your voices will definitely carry. Not opposed to the instruments and campfire singing, but please be mindful. But those die hards looking for a unique experience with open skies for primitive camp, you'll find this space really wanderful at Camp Wonder Wander. Larger groups may be accommodated on the farm side or with permission the river side is perfect for scout troops.
There are no vehicles allowed on the riverside property. You'll park at the edge of retreat center 5 acres and walk thru a lovely wooded area, past a giant old oak until the field opens up. NO more than 12 people at a time, in various size groups. Parking for up to 5 vehicles. Please inquire about small RVs or camper trailers.
If interested in activities at the retreat center such as add-on creative workshops from collage to clay, as well as purchase of farm fresh eggs or produce from the gardens.
Prefer non-smokers and limited or no use of alcohol due to liability and safety issues with the property being on a bluff. Don't want someone wandering off in the night and mistaking the the trees on the bluff for flat land.

Incredible experience. Options for everyone and anyone - private, open pastures or camp in a beautiful garden. We set up in a sweet yard area, complete with chairs accommodated by our amazing host Val. Val also runs a sweet creative retreat throughout the year, and so we enjoyed her creative spaces and donkeys roaming! So peaceful. Quiet everywhere.
