Description

There’s a reason why folks are rushing over to the Palisades, a small (157 acres), but mighty state park situated in southeastern South Dakota. With ample camping opportunities alongside Split Rock Creek, you’ll be geared up for days of paddling down the water, hiking amongst the bursting foliage and wildflowers, and rock climbing on some of the nation’s best quartzite crags around. Don’t be fooled by this park’s small size; the history here runs deep through the colorful gorges and the sights are larger than life.

This was a surprisingly wonderful state park. There is quite a bit to do in the area in addition to the park. We spent three nights here and still didn't get to see everything we would have liked. The campground was wonderful with large and secluded spaces, clean bathrooms, hot showers, playgrounds, and tasty drinking water. We felt very comfortable and safe here. There is no wifi, but the power outlets all worked and were plentiful. I would highly recommend staying at the campground and visiting the area not to just the people passing through, but to anyone.

The state park hosts a nice trail system. This is one of the trails that goes over a historical bridge.Palisades State ParkThe nearest brewery is only 15 minutes away and pretty good.Nearby Devils Gulch (5min)
