The vibe at Black Hills Sheep Herders Wagon
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This cozy, little wagon served as the perfect get-a-way as I was driving west through South Dakota. I couldn't have felt more at home inside. There's a small wood burning stove that provided the slight smell of cedar while keeping me warm. The bed is large and comfortable with beautiful blankets. There's plenty of seating inside with two cushioned benches. Through and through this was a great experience with a great site and great host. Can't recommend staying here enough.
The sheep herder's wagon and the rest of Julie's property is an great place that I would highly recommend. Great with or without dogs, with plenty of space to roam and explore. The wagon is very cozy and comfortable and provides a very unique 'camping' experience. Julie was great with her communication and flexibility. I hope to be back to stay soon!
Julie was awesome. A great spot for our kids, the wagon was perfect and the property was more than we could explore in our time there. She was the perfect host, always offering what would/could be needed and ensuring we had a great time. Felt more like visiting family than someone we had just met. We will be returning to this site!
We had an amazing trip! Julie is very kind and helpful, and the wagon is so cute and clean. The camp is stocked with various camping supplies like roasting sticks, paper towels, dishware, and more, so even if you forget something, it's most likely provided for you.
The site feels very private, with many acres of Julie's land to explore through the trails she has created. There's several large rock formations to scramble up as well. This site feels like renting an entire campground that you have all to yourself.
This camp is a 15 minute drive to Sylvan Lake in Custer State Park, within 10 minutes to downtown Custer as well, which is fun to explore. Great location.
One note for future campers: The bathroom is a bucket with wood chips in a little outhouse tent, so you do need to be okay with that to camp here. Works just fine though :)
What a lovely place to stay. The site’s splendor was only matched by the hospitality of its hosts. Julie was very accommodating even as my plans changed. Despite my late arrival, Mar, an associate of Julie’s, welcomed me warmly and got me all set up. I only wish I could have stayed longer!
