Yurt Island glamping is located at Southeast Outdoor Adventure Center (SOAC) in Bowman, SC.  SOAC is an outdoor gathering facility that hosts 6-8 outdoor races per year (such as trail runs, OCRs, Cross Fit competitions, mountain biking, etc).  SOAC is located less than 15 minutes from the I-95/I-26 interchange.

Yurt Island glamping is tucked away on 120 acres of SOAC property.  Once you have used the key pad to enter the property, follow the map and drive to Yurt Island parking, then walk ~150 feet onto the island where your glamping experience awaits.  The half acre island is surrounded by trees and a 15 ft wide body of water…don’t worry, it’s only 1-3 ft deep (depending upon the time of year).  Feel free to bring your SUP or your kayak on the property…we have 3 small, fairly shallow ponds…perfect for SUPs and kayaks.

The glamping Yurt has a queen-size bed and other furnishings.  (If you have kids or other campers joining, please bring sleeping bags for additional people...bed sleeps two, maximum # of campers allowed in Yurt is 4.)  There is indoor lighting, but other electricity has been thoughtfully deleted…don’t stress about charging your phone, you’re here to enjoy nature and disconnect (Facebook and Instagram can wait a day or two)!  The exterior landscape lighting will enhance your relaxation and enjoyment of the peaceful “island” life around your campfire.  Bathrooms and showers are a short walk from the island.

To embrace the island life, heating and a/c are not a part of the glamping experience.  But, honestly, it is quite pleasant…with the exception of the dead of summer, which is when the heat can make the his & hers dipping pools a really refreshing hangout for Yurties.  Be sure to bring your own linens (sheets, towels, pillows, etc.) or sleeping bags to satisfy your preferred level of comfort.

Other campsites/RV sites are available if you have a group to accommodate, and you’ll have acres of nature in which to explore and recharge.   Come alive outside at SOAC!

My wife and I had a very pleasant overnight stay at Yurt Island. Located in Bowman, SC (also home to the UFO welcome center...a must see!) the Yurt is on the grounds of Southeast Outdoor Adventure Center(SOAC). While we were staying at SOAC there were no events going on, but be advised there is an obstacle course which is the main attraction of the site. While my wife and I had the entire place to ourselves, the level of privacy could be drastically impacted by groups in for activities. The Yurt is tucked away from the cabins and primative camping areas but very close to the "Hub*. or communial area of SOAC. It seems there isn't staff that live on site so make sure you pack what you will need or visit the Dollar General a couple miles away.

Alan, the camp host, was very cordial over the phone and made sure we knew he could be contacted at any point during our stay to answer questions. Outside of that our interactions took place through email. Maps, camp rules, and waivers were all sent prior to our arrival.

Yurt island is located in a lower lying area of the campground. Bring shoes you don't mind getting muddy if there has been any recent rain. Alan provided us with plenty of wood to get a fire started, and the surrounding areas have plenty more limbs and brush we we're permitted to use. As mentioned in the site info there are lights inside and some along the path leading to the fire pit but no useable electrical outlets. You will not be "glamping" on Yurt Island. There were 2 thin blankets provided, a night stand, chair, and a chest for storage. The bed was wrapped in plastic which we assumed was to protect it from the elements. That was our only complaint with our stay as the crackling of the plastic kept waking us up.

The property is scenic, with lots of trees and water. There are 2 ponds of which we were told we could kayak. We decided not to as they were both quite shallow and we didn't see any good spots to put in.

It was a nice relaxing stay overall. This is a new event space and you could tell they are still continuing to grow. I imagine over the next year they will be adding and improving all aspects of the grounds making for an even more memorable experience.

Let me start by saying what a thoughtful, helpful, and considerate host Alan is. My travel plans changed last minute and Alan was incredibly responsive and accommodating. Not only did he making changing the plans a breeze, he offered great recommendations for places to go swimming (Santee State Park for those of you wondering) is super close and a great spot! There are also two soaking tubs in the back that Alan filled for us before our arrival, and set up wood and kindling for a fire. Alan even put two water bottles and rose cans in a cooler for us!! Honestly Alan, we love you.

The yurt itself is gorgeous and private. The tubs were so romantic and relaxing. The fire was a great way to wind down the evening. The bed is a little crinkly with the wrap on it, but we had the lovely sounds of singing frogs to lull us to sleep at night. love the yurt.
