The vibe at Bay View Camp
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
A beautiful spot for primitive camping. Bathrooms with running water. (No hot water) lots of space to spread out. Several areas to setup camp and a central area with bathrooms and fire pit. Very casual and laid back. The view over the intracoastal Wayerway is stellar! Solar eclipse on August 21 this is the place to be!
We had a wonderful time here! David was so welcoming and offered us several spot to choose from to set up and camp. He was very considerate of whether we had a tent, generator, whether we wanted a more secluded spot or more open, and wanted to make sure we'd be comfortable and not be disturbed by the noise of others. His property is beautiful! We had a lovely, shady spot for camping, and there are breathtaking views on the water just steps away, and a beautiful trail to stroll. The bathrooms were close by. We're so grateful he shared this beautiful spot with us and was such a fun and gracious host for the eclipse viewing! We could not have asked for more from this experience and would definitely come back to camp another time.
Our host David is a true Southern Gentleman met us showed us around, He even stopped by to check on us from time to time. The views are spectacular both the sun rise and sunset are a beauty to behold! Fishing, crabbing, kayaking, Bird watching, and many other things in nature. Having a bathroom and cold water shower on site is a big plus! This is Primitive camping at its best! Bring Extra bug spray, Sun Screen, & Water. Just a few miles away is anything you may need to buy while in the area. If you get out to see the sights, visit the See Wee Shell ring, "oldest man-made thing in N. America", Hampton Plantation, St James Parish, and of course McClellanville, "buy fresh seafood there"
I must say that this is an amazingly beautiful place. We spent a couple of days here for the total eclipse and it was indescribably perfect. David puts a lot of hard work into maintaining this large old plantation and it really shows. As others have noted, David is a gentleman that truly cares about his guests. If you need something, David will go out of his way to accommodate you or just leave you in privacy, which ever you prefer. The entrance off 17 may look a bit sketchy to some but you will soon see the unbelievable vistas that await. There is huge selection of camping areas that would serve anyones taste. The eclipse was a very special event for me and my wife and I am so glad we were s able to experience it it such very special place.
Great camping spot!! Lots of privacy! Super quiet and relaxing! Beautiful view of the sunrise on the pond and amazing view of stars at night!
David is a great host. He makes you feel right at home like you are in your own backyard. There is plenty of firewood, bathroom, sun shower and more.
It’s a great place to kayak, or just walk around and view the hundreds of birds!! I’ve never seen so many egrets and herons in one place! My dog had even more fun than me I think!!!
Dave was such a chilled out, friendly host. We enjoyed pulling our van up under the trees and building a campfire, listening to a chorus of frogs, gators and birds.
The site is spacious and has a sweet setup for gatherings. Hoping to get back down south to stargaze and attend one of Dave's famous Jams.
