Lake Wateree Wonderland
I will defintely be back!
OMG! Who knew I lived so close to such a beautiful place? Lake Wateree is beautiful and Ted and Monica are absolute wonderful hosts. I did a solo camping trip with my two sons (11 and 13) and they have already made me promise to bring them back.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by Ted who guided me to the area where I could set up my camp at my discretion. Ted promptly brought me the hose and an extension cord for electricity. There was also Monica's RV, which is as cute as a button, to use the restroom in. And it was air conditioned! My citified boys were glad to have that available.
I set up my camp to the sultry sounds of Sade provided by Monica. She didn't know that was my sister's favorite artist. I was able to revisit memories of her. My sister passed away in 2012 and it was nice to be in such a beautiful quiet place to think of her. Thank you, Monica.
Once camp was set up, I made dinner which we ate by the beautiful fire pit. It was so pleasant and quiet and I felt very safe with my children. We were the only campers there surrounded by homes of families with children playing Marco Polo in the lake steps away.
Saturday morning, Ted brought out fishing rods and took my boys fishing of their deck. He even provided life jackets for us. I had not come prepared to fish (I don't know how. LOL) My youngest caught a huge catfish and my eldest a few minnows which were all thrown back with the exception of the catfish that broke away.
That evening it rained and thundered. Monica keep checking on us and even offered her RV if the storm got bad. We stayed in our tent but it was nice to have that option. The next morning we had a lovely boat ride and swam in the pool a couple of hours before we headed home. We had the beautiful pool with slide and stone patio to enjoy to ourselves. I loved that bonding time with my boys.
I have already recommend Lake Wateree to friends and family. You better hurry up and book before Ted and Monica realize they should be charging way more!

Hip hosts make HipCamp sparkle!
Monica and Ted's HipCamp site is a gem! And what lovely hosts they were. We would definitely come back. They are right on the lake and the morning view was lovely with the mist above the water. We had two dogs with us who were delighted to play with their sweet dog Yoshi. We came to celebrate our anniversary and used the kayaks to go out on the lake and swam in the pool which was clean and had lovely tables for sitting. We also sat one evening by the fire at "Ted Henge" a crazy patio that Ted built himself with fire reflections sparkling all around and heard stories about Ted's adventures of building a 45 foot sailboat with a friend - you should ask him about it! Fascinating. They are close to Columbia if you want to do city things - but we chose to spend the day out at Congaree National Park, which was only about a 1/2 hour's drive. We went hiking all day and came back to a sweet surprise from Monica for our anniversary. A definite star as our first experience with HipCamp.

Lake Wateree Wonderland
Monica was an amazing host, she was very helpful and provided everything we could want. The lake was beautiful and we got to enjoy a ride out on the boat to watch the sunset on the lake. We can’t wait to come back when there is warmer weather so we can swim in the pool! It was the perfect, private, little getaway.

Great host and a wonderful campsite. I will be going back. The hospitality from Ted and Monica will make you want to return. So much to do, fishing, boating, kayaking and the most beautiful birds. I love the site and the good company.

Lake Wateree Wonderland
Lake Wateree Wonderland is a lovely gem of a spot in South Carolina. Monica and Ted are wonderful and work hard to make it a great stay. The location on the lake is beautiful and there is so much to do right at the site with kayaks available and a terrific and refreshing pool. We also got to go on a fun boat ride to see more of the lake and the area. It is a nice spot for anyone looking for a getaway for camping with enough to keep you occupied for your whole stay.

Lake Wateree Wonderland
We had a wonderful last getaway before school started. Monica and Ted were amazing. Monica and I were so extremely similar it was ridiculous. I ended up making a new friend for life I hope. They were the most gracious and were there to help with whatever we needed. Otherwise we didn't see them at all. Monica took us on a wonderful boat ride across the gigantic lake (with Yoshi, her dog) Our dog Oreo and Yoshi became friends, though Yoshi is older and did not want to play as much as Oreo. We camped with our "top off" the tent and it was a beautiful starry night. We kayaked to the island and swam around. We had a campfire at "Tedhenge", the amazing granite walled fire pit Ted built. We played charades by the fire. We played cards at the table by the pool.
The potty area was very cute and inside it's own little private tent area. My girls loved the pool and slide (and hooking their music up to the stereo) and spent most of the day in it, as did I. John spent much time fishing and finally did catch one (despite the fact that he is not a great fisherman lol) The cricket sounds at night were very soothing and there was a nice breeze off the lake. Monica even let us use a small fan in the tent which was wonderful. I recommend this to anyone who loves camping as much as we do. You must ask Monica to show you their arrowhead collection. It is awesome. We had a super time here and hope to visit again. Thank you again to wonderful hosts for making this a special getaway for us all.
