An extensive site with different areas for camping. Lovely location and great dam. Facilities are tired. I found the access road to the main reception area a bit tricky to negotiate in a 2wd van. The road is steep, gravelly and pot holed. I almost slid backwards in the van, so a bit of acceleration was needed. The site itself was nice, with plenty of room and a nice outlook.

We booked and didn’t end up staying at this camp, the unpowered camping area and bathroom/kitchen facilities were more run down than expected from the photos

This campsite looks better in the photos than in reality..i booked online and was charged $215 for 3 nights for 2 people on a powered site..access road in is poor ..there are no campsites next to billabong

The Billabong was a wonderful place to spend our first night in far North Queensland. It is beautiful and quiet, with lovely vibes at the bar/cafe with live music and delicious pizza.

Great location and amenities available, unfortunately my stay was disturbed by the earth works at 830am with the water being shut off as well without notice. The operator was getting closer and closer to us making us feel very much pushed out and uncomfortable 2 hours prior to checking out. I booked with this place to retreat in some silent therapy but instead got an excavator digging a trench at 830am 10 metres from my camp.
Hopefully next time will be better.

Gorgeous little billabong, we stayed here and travelled into cairns and Kuranda. Nice and quiet if you don’t like being in the heart of cairns away from the hustle and bustle

Carmen was so polite and helpful, the camping was great for escape from the city life, the walk with Uncle Erl was really nice , he showed us the waterfalls and shared information about the djibugay customs and lifestyle.
Also the pizza at the camping was delicious. I would definitely recommend staying at Billabong Kuranda and go to the pub/ cafe as the night we went it had live music and super cool atmosphere!

The campground is really special and beautiful. Good facilities, local restaurant. The only setback is that it is 30 min drive up very windy road from cairns. Better to stay for a while

My first HipCamp experience was excellent at the Billabong. Arriving on Pizza night, I was off to an excellent start. Outlook was beautiful in every direction. Facilities were basic but adequate- it’s not the Ritz. Staff are so VERY kind and helpful but most importantly, the coffee is amazing.
Chill, positive environment with bonus local Guinea fowl ❤️

The first night was good. The second night was a nightmare: a last minute warning (same day) that a wedding was organised in the campsite. As a result, half of the campsite area was restricted and there was music until early in the morning as loud as if we were there, we simply didn't sleep.
We find it scandalous that the campsite allowed booking at the same time as they welcome wedding, our experience is greatly affected.

We loved The Billabong. They had a pizza night on Wednesday where we met other travellers and locals. The site was spacious and had everything we needed. We’d highly recommend and come back again.

Great camping on a grassy patch down near the water. Amenities were well used but clean. Very friendly staff!

This is a magical spot and it’s being upgraded too. The owners are dreaming big here! Has a cafe with limited opening hours, really good amenities and is pet friendly. You won’t be disappointed!

Loved this camp site! Carmen is a great host. I didn't know that there were occasional events at the Billabong Cafe. Was a lot of fun. Highly recommend. My only small gripe is the floodlighting, which is a little intense but also not a big problem. Other than that, it's a great camp! Nice people!

The location and nature were very beautiful! Unfortunately I can't recommend it as everything is very outdated and run down. The plumbing was absolutely terrible!!!! There was no lighting!

One of my favourite places to stay. The site is run by dedicated staff, friendly and helpful. Checking in requires a bit of figuring out but I found that a generous amount of common sense and taking the time to read the instructions at the check-in cafe helped. 😊 I loved the sound of the birds in the morning and the view over the little lake and river is special. Rustic is how I would describe the facilities and this adds to the charm of the place. Don’t just book 1 night, book 2 as you get to know the place and the people you’ll be glad you did.
