Go to sleep under star-filled dark skies and wake up to a panoramic view of the forest and fields that surround you! Oak Mountain Hideaway is our dream home on a parcel of 24 private acres. We welcome you to pitch your tent atop our forested mountain with spectacular sunrises and sunsets, wildlife and birds galore, and dark skies for viewing the stars and the Milky Way! We have three sites available. Site #1 is the farthest from the main house and is about a 3 minute walk through a mowed field path. You will have complete privacy.
This site has a fire pit with a grill and firewood is provided. Drinking water will be provided upon arrival.
We are completely secluded and surrounded by the natural environment. We are only a few miles from a wild elk herd and State Game Lands. Birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts will see and hear many common species including bluebirds, blue jays, robins, chickadees, mourning doves and many more including the brown thrasher, the woodcock, various owls, turkey, hawks, and the whippoorwill. We have even seen northern harriers and bald eagles. Deer are plentiful and at night you'll hear coyotes howl. Black bear make an appearance from time to time, but rarely.
The nearby Quehanna Wilds is a wonderland for hikers, backpackers, mountain bikers, bird watchers, hunters and fishermen. There are over 48,000 acres in this wilderness which is part of two state forest natural areas. Here you can pick wild blueberries in late summer and cross country ski in the winter months. We are also near the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on which you can canoe or kayak. We provide a shuttle service for an added fee. Unplug and unwind at our mountain hideaway!

Places to see near Oak Mountain Hideaway
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We LOVED oak mountain hideaway! It’s on beautiful property that is very well kept. Anna Marie was so welcoming and friendly and was there for us if we needed anything! Oak mountain hideaway is on a little mountain right near a river and Anna Marie is willing and excited for if people want to put in a canoe or kayak that she would love to help with dropping people off and picking them up. They also have house concerts in their beautiful home that look so fun! Having different bands and groups come and sing! All 3 of the sites are set up in their own little section of the property - one being close to the home in case you don't want to be too far away from a home. In the morning we were there was beautiful fog covering over the side of the mountain that is just gorgeous.
My partner and I tried Hipcamp for the first time ever and were a bit nervous about what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find how great of an experience we had!
Anna Marie was such a lovely host who went above and beyond to make sure we were accommodated and having a good time camping on her property. Prior to camping we had exchanged a few emails and I had asked where I might be able to fish around the area and she emailed me an extensive list of fishing spots complete with a customized map and other resources we could refer to in order to find the most suitable spots for our fishing proficiency. This is only one example of many where Anna Marie really went above and beyond.
Now on to the camping spot, it was beautiful. Pictures do it no justice. For those of you who would like some privacy and a lovely view, I definitely recommend the #1 camping spot. I promise you will not regret it.
If you have the opportunity check out this spot and camp here! It was such a lovely experience for me and I'm sure it will be for you too.
I cannot say enough nice things about this campsite! First of all, the hosts, Anna and Ed are EXTREMELY welcoming and kind. During our stay we had an awfully cold and rainy day, and they offered for us to stay in their house and sleep in their warm basement. It was much appreciated and very cozy. They also gave us some snacks and amazing hospitality.
They have an absolutely gorgeous house and property. The sunrise and the stars are perfectly viewable from the campsite. The small cabin at Oak Mountain Hideaway #1 is very convenient for storing things. They even provide a wagon for transporting your things to the campsite! Overall, this campsite is beautiful and the hosts could not be nicer or easier to talk to. I would absolutely recommend staying here, and will hopefully be returning myself!
My boyfriend and I stayed at site #1 for a weekend trip a few weeks ago. With such welcoming hosts, we wanted to leave our packs and stay for a few weeks. The site is very spacious with a gorgeous view. Unfortunately, we did not get to see any elk, but the land is stunning all on its own. We can't wait to come out again! Thank you for everything 😊
We arrived at Oak Mountain Hideaway on a cold winter evening in winter 2017 and were overjoyed by our experience. Our hosts, Anna Marie and Ed, were incredibly kind, supplying us with fresh-baked cookies, a tour of their beautiful home, and a wagon to cart our belongings to the walk-on campsite. Their hospitality and generosity is more than enough reason to return. We also enjoyed the luxury of campfire cooking with a grill (Thanks, Anna!) and woke up to the breathtaking, smoky landscapes of PA. We will definitely be back - would love to see this one-of-a-kind camping spot in the summer and hopefully catch a live concert too!
Quiet and wonderful weekend!
We had a wonderful experience with Anna Marie and Ed. Next door to our house a Sheetz moved in and it's so noisy. We just needed to get away someplace where we only heard nature. I asked if it was quiet and she said it was. She wasn't kidding. It was so peaceful and relaxing. I am so glad I stumbled on this site. Our air mattress pump died and they let us use theirs and even texted when the space station was overhead. It's a dark sky area. We heard wild turkeys, whip-poor-wills at night, spring peepers, and saw all sorts of critters. We were there from Fri. to Sunday and there just wasn't enough time to take it all in. They provide dry oak firewood, which was nice and then you could buy more if needed. We bought one extra bundle since we were cooking a lot. The compost toilet/outbuilding was very clean and spacious. We had a really bad thunderstorm Friday night and we put our food bags and stuff we didn't want to get wet in there since our tent was full of 5 people and beds. There were also maps, bottled water, cleaner, wipes, hot dog forks, garbage bag, matches, etc. Those were nice added touches if you forgot something.
The following are reviews from the kids:
16 year old: Quiet and nice owners.
13 year old: Beautiful hiking trails and the owners are very friendly.
11 year old: There are cool bugs and a nice view in the morning.
Tucked away in a golden field with dark skies filled with stars above, we felt at home in nature at the Mountain Hideaway site #1. It was just far enough from the parking area that we felt a sense of privacy but still close enough to carry our things back and forth. The hosts provided a wagon to help as well! The little hut structure was lit with strings of colorful lights and had some brochures of things to do in the area in it. It was also a nice surprise to have a compost toilet available. It was very windy when we stayed so we didn’t light a fire until later that night but when we did it was beautiful and peaceful. The hosts provided fire wood, water for the fire and drinking water as well which was very nice. We left feeling refreshed and recharged.
This spot was perfect for a peaceful and private weekend escape! The hosts are so sweet and gave us great recommendations for local hiking and the best restaurants, can’t wait to stay here again!
