Welcome to our little slice of heaven along Pine Creek at the southern end of the "PA Grand Canyon". It is an outdoor lover's dream. The camp lies inside of Tiadaghton State Forest on the west side of Pine Creek in the Pennsylvania Wilds. The property is 5 acres, embedded deep in public land. On the property there is this one very large campsite (approx 100 square ft) for rent and our small cabin. If we are there at the same time as our guests, we share the outhouse and shower, but our guests have their own private picnic table, fire pit and grill on the far side of the property. The area is beautiful for paddling, floating, fishing, hiking, biking, rock skipping, dipping your toes, swimming hole gems, searching for waterfalls, writing retreats. There are hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain bike and ATV trails, and some of the best fishing and stargazing on the East Coast. There is a 62 mile -rails-to-trails that runs along the other side of Pine Creek from Wellsboro to Jersey Shore, PA. Our camp is located on a secluded hill - a relaxing oasis removed from the rest of the world - read a book in a hammock, build campfires, grill yummy food, let the kids run around like crazy, play a lot of cards. Towner's Country Paradise

4 sites ¡ Lodging, Tents500 acres ¡ Addison, NY
Towner's Country Paradise started out as a wild forest and pasture for cows in the 1940's, owned by Llewellyn Towner. In the 1960s, Llewellyn's love for aviation led him to construct a small airstrip and hangar, and then his son Terry began to plant Christmas Trees (no more cows) and clear much of the land. By the early 1970's our main and largest pond was built and since that time our fully functional cabin, several more fish ponds, roads, trails, running water and generated electricity have been added. Christmas Trees are still grown and harvested by Terry's son Scott Towner. Green rolling hills, deep valleys, a waterfall, ponds stocked with fish, a fully functional cabin, herds of deer, flocks of turkey and Canada Geese, & well-maintained roads and trails here in Addison NY. It's so private that even most of the people who live in our small town don't know we're here! CHECK OUR REVIEWS!OPTION to camp/hike in the woods for a more wild experience. NEARBY: restaurants including Chinese, Subway, pizza/wings, & several excellent diners offering take out or eat-in. ALSO: Dollar General, Wal-Mart (15 min away), Dunkin Donuts (5 min away), & gas stations.Your jaw will *drop* when you see Towner's Country Paradise for the first time!

Austin Dam Memorial Park

206 sites ¡ RVs, Tents76 acres ¡ PA
Just outside the quaint town of Austin sits a vivid reminder of one of Pennsylvania's worst disasters – the Austin Flood. In 1909, the dam was constructed on Freeman Run to power the Bayless Papermill downstream. Many wondered if the dam was safe. On September 30, 1911, Austin found out. Poor construction, coupled with torrential rain, resulted in the dam's collapse. Nearly 400 million gallons of water were released, destroying everything for 8 miles. At least 78 people perished in the tragedy. It was the second worst flood disaster in Pennsylvania's history and sixth worst dam failure in U.S. history. The tragedy sparked new legislation to improve dam safety, and the Austin Dam was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. The ruins of the dam still stand, surrounded by a 76-acre park, as a tribute to the lives lost in the Austin Flood. Don't miss one of Potter County's best kept secrets!

The best camping near Leonard Harrison State Park guide

Overview

About

Carved within the well-hidden, leaf littered canyon face of neighboring Tioga State Forest, Leonard Harrison State Park is a scenic oasis from the everyday. Boasting some of Pennsylvania's most magnificent photo ops, the near six-hundred-acre expanse rims the eastern half of the area’s famous Pine Creek Gorge; Native Americans famously used this terrestrial haven for trade and major travel. Aside from the lense-focusing activities that backdrop Leonard Harrison State Park, there’s a plethora (in face, miles-’n’-miles) of pristine hiking trails. But make sure to lace-up your hiking boots extra tight; the terrain is known to be quite a bit ragged at some points. However, unlike the snaking trails, the area’s campsites aren’t nearly as hard-edged―they’re quite soft. Both you and your rechargeable LED flashlight will be satisfied.

When to go

The best time to visit Leonard Harrison State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the foliage is in full display. Summer offers warm days perfect for hiking, but be prepared for larger crowds. Winters can be harsh, with snow limiting access to certain areas of the park, making it less ideal for visits.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast before your visit, as conditions can change rapidly.
  • Wear appropriate footwear for hiking, as trails can be rocky and uneven.
  • Keep a safe distance from wildlife and do not feed the animals.
  • Be aware that cell phone reception may be limited within the park.
  • Visit the park's visitor center for maps, exhibits, and information on the area's history and geology.
