Branded with history and landscaped by match-striking beauty, Greenwood Furnace State Park Campground will surely fuel your inner desire to turn-away from the smokestacks of industrialized Pennsylvania and, instead, wander into the state’s historically-rich, natural backdrops. Marked by the community that occupied this mountains region till the early twentieth-century, Greenwood Furnace State Park was once a four-hundred-some-acre, fire-fed metropolis where everything-and-anything molted eventually solidified. Steam engines echoed like hundreds of boiling tea kettles alongside the comely valleys; night skies lit by the furnaces working through the early mornings. And, while the town’s long since been abandoned, you’ll quickly feel the area’s enigmatic history resting on your canteen-weighted shoulders.
