Never mind about sleeping on the ground in a tent, because you’ll be out in two seconds after a day of exploring here. Camping at the Hearts Content Recreation Area puts you at the heart of the Allegheny National Forest, and there are enough trails here to keep a professional trail runner busy for seasons on end. The Hickory Creek Trailhead is just north of the campground, which is a good place to start. When you’re all tuckered out, we highly recommend a more leisurely stroll through the Hearts Content Scenic Area, which covers over 200 acres of virgin forest.

I have stayed at this campground a few times. It is located near the Hickory Creek Wilderness, a very lush 12.1 mile loop with backcountry sites. Hearts Content is a great place to stay the night before or after a backpacking trip. Firewood is available at the campground for $10 for a large bundle. Site 12 is a large wooded site with a lean-to. It is located near a toilet & water. Site was $14 is 2015.
