Pitch your tent under the stars on our 40-acre property, Welcome Back Woods. You are welcome to camp in the wide open back field, in the clearing in the woods, or rake out a spot in the woods of your choosing.

Welcome Back Woods is located on the traditional land of the Molalla People of Clackamas County in Colton, Oregon, 50-minutes from downtown Portland. This is a great place to seek respite. The land has a positive energy and spirit, fresh air, pastoral views and visiting wildlife.

We moved to Welcome Back Woods in 2015 after studying permaculture design and dreaming of cultivating our own homestead. In 2017, we closed out a 10-year commercial Christmas tree lease and started restoring 15-acres with nitrogen-fixing oats and red clover. In 2019, we worked with Trout Mountain Forestry to do a selective thinning in the woods to improve the health of the 11 acres of forest. In fall 2020, we will replant hundreds of trees for greater diversity. On the quest for food sovereignty, we have a flock of about two dozen chickens, a .5 acre organic vegetable garden, fruit tree nursery, greenhouse where we grew all the starts from seed, and we're in the process of building a barn.

Please note: This is a working farm with animal and tractor sounds at random times. We have drinking water onsite, and the nearest water to swim in is the Molalla River or McIver Park.

Notes about arrival:

1. GPS often tells people to just pass our property and take a right on Nyquist. We are actually the last property before the corner of Schieffer and Nyquist. Look for the farm produce table alongside the hay field on Schieffer and we are the next driveway on the right.

2. Please call or text when you arrive, or knock on the front door of the white house and Will or Meredith will greet you/show you around. If you have questions while onsite, please reach out to one of us. We have renters in the wood cabin next to the house and want to ensure their privacy.

Welcome back is a great place to escape the city. It’s a very peaceful property with cute animals everywhere. Roam in the woods, exercise, cook outside or say hi the animals. The possibilities are endless. The hosts were kind and hospitable.

Having access to a bathroom would definitely sweeten the deal. Either way, a great place to visit!

We stayed four nights in our VW bus with two young kids and this was a great location for us. Nice views, a great breakfast option and lots of space to ourselves. Overall highly recommended. This was one of the best hipcamps I stayed at and we will definitely be back.

Highlights:
- The breakfast option, served in the green house was amazing. We had farm fresh eggs, veggies, bacon, coffee, pastries or pancakes.
- There are slack lines and a host of other outdoor gym equipment to use at your own risk.
- A green house with hammocks and a large table and chairs for rainy or cold days.
- Well maintained property.
- Good nearby parks with river access.
- Friendly, helpful, and inspiring hosts.
- Even though the listing mentioned fires were not allowed, we were able to use a fire pit that was present. I'm assuming the fire option depends on where you camp (we were in the open field) and how dry it is.

Things to keep in mind here:
- As mentioned in the listing, at this time there is no toilet and shower option so plan accordingly. We brought a pop-up bathroom tent with simple toilet and solar shower and that worked out really well here.
- Overall it was nice and quiet but there was some intermittent noise from neighboring properties, gas powered golf cart racing and some shooting. Nothing surprising out in the country and it didn't negatively impact our stay.

I cannot say enough good things about my stay here. The hosts are lovely, friendly, warm and welcoming. There are a couple site options, one to fit a number of desires and multiple tents. The site I ended up on was in a circle of trees, for all day shade with a view of hills and trees as far as I could see. There was the expected neighboring farm sounds and the lovely crowing of roosters in the mornings. Sunsets, and Moon rises were amazing and the stars bountiful. I will certainly be back again. Oh, ps. get the breakfast - worth every penny and more - and the veggie bag too! I am still enjoying the bag of veggies and flowers now a couple days later.

Amazing and relaxing to camp here. The hosts are wonderful, kind, and attentive to everythibg you could need in a camping environment. There were a lot of spaces presented to me where I could set up—forested woods, an open area with a great view of fields, and near a large amount of fruit trees. There was a ton of woods to explore with wildlife all over the place. I had such a great stay, and I can't wait to head back.

We use this Hipcamp site as a homebase for doing research on nearby streams, and it is so lovely to have a reliable place to stay where we know the owners are respectful and so friendly. Meredith and her family were extremely welcoming and accommodating to our needs, as we had a few extra requests. There is a ton of space for dispersed camping and in a few months hopefully there will be a more established glamping spot available as well. The property has access to forest, a greenhouse, and large pastures to explore. You'll also no doubt be in for a gorgeous sunset too. We're extremely thankful for this spot!

I loved the peaceful mornings by the creek and one night the clouds cleared so I could see the stars. So many delightful surprises -- the new glamping setup that Meredith let me try out (tent, bed, wood stove!), the chickens (esp the Silkies), the greenhouse where you can relax in a hammock inside from the rain, the friendly people. There's also a hand water pump for drinking and washing.

I really enjoyed staying here! The owners are sweet and helpful. The views, especially at sunrise and sunset, are spectacular. The site and entire property are wonderful. And only 50 mins from Portland. I will be back soon and often.

What a great little site! Meredith and her family were great hosts - the grounds are large and spacious and offer plenty of spaces to set up. The sky is wide and open above and the expanse is incredibly welcoming.
