This is wide open, raw, untamed Oregon High Desert land in SE Oregon!

It's just 3 miles off Highway 205, 7 miles from the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, and 4 miles from a diner and store - but it feels like you're thousands of miles away when you're out here! You'll likely hear more coyotes than cars while you're here. : )

The land is covered in sage brush and the songs of various bird species fill the air. Sunset and sunrise are spectacular in this part of the state.

It is common to see birds of prey, deer, antelope, wild rabbits, and coyotes near the property. The area surrounding this land, in particular the nearby refuge, is Oregon's best in terms of the diversity of species you will see in a short period of time.

An awesome day trip South of here is the Steens Mountain Loop. Make sure to hit the Fields Station Store for milkshakes and then head North to enjoy them on the majestic Alvord Desert floor. Another awesome trip South is Hart Mountain. A very pretty drive North is Highway 395N out of Burns, which is filled with prairie and mountain country.

A full service store / diner are located just 3 or so miles away for all your creature comforts @ Narrows, Oregon.

Hmmm, what else? Oregon is known for its dense forests and coastline, but we feel the High Desert is by far the best kept secret, and best part period, about Oregon. The skies, the wildlife, the stars, the beautiful sounds of the wind and the birds - for us, it does not get any better than camping in the solitude and magic of the Oregon High Desert! It's therapeutic, inspiring, and invigorating all at once.

There are a handful of natural clearings on the property along a dirt road, but you are welcome to set up camp anywhere you wish. We tend to go for the back corners, but surely you can also find little clearings among the sage brush. It's all good!!

Hope you love your time out here.

This spot was exactly as advertised. We loved it! I understand that our host Joseph is the new owner of this beautiful untouched patch of oregon high desert. The site and accomodations will evolve. It was a flat piece of desert earth on a fence line with nothing but brush and sage as far as the eye can see. And that's it. And the STARS!!! We were also incredibly lucky to be out there while Comet Neowise was clearly visible in the northwest sky just after a spectacular sunset. We could hear a family of coyotes about 100 yards away but we left each other alone. We saw a few other little desert critters and I wouldn't leave your shoes outside the tent at night. Its nature. Be prepared and be smart.
We drove in in a basic 4 door sedan and had some trepidation about the road condition and possibly sustaining some damage. The sounds of the thorny brush under the car were concerning but we made it and the car seems fine. It is a rough road but its flat and as long as it is dry, anyone could make it... Trucks and higher clearance maybe recommended.
It was a great place to pitch a tent for a night and if you really want to get away from it all, I can imagine a few nights out there could really help you reset.
There is Nothing out there so you need to be prepared to pack out all of your waste. Leave NO trace. And enjoy this incredible patch right on the edge of heaven!!
