Communal campground, nice hosts
This is a lovely little campground on the Clackamas that is easy to get to from Portland. Hosts are super friendly and attentive. Really cool timber frame communal kitchen with communal fire pit. Dog and kid-friendly. The tent sites we saw were large and tidy.
Cons: We have a T@b trailer and stayed in the site for RVs. It is very very close to the host's residence (just off the driveway). There is no firepit and no spot for setting up camp chairs or table. (Host graciously invited us to use the setup at another site that wasn't occupied, so there was a spot we could walk to).
It was difficult to practice Social Distancing here. People were too close -- (happy) kids whirring by on bikes, (friendly and adorable) dogs running loose ... things I'm happy to see under normal circumstances, but not what I was looking for during COVID.
Depends on which site you get
Nice folks and beautiful setting that they’re working hard on. Some of the camp sites are well done and have a wonderful view of the river (ours didn’t). I was excited because of the reviews but for us, we did not enjoy this spot. We paid a steep $60/ night for the site, high for what we experienced. The morning of our arrival it had rained which caused a lot of mud surrounding the site with no pathway to avoid traversing it.
Even after the following two days of no rain, standing muddy water prevailed. They have some type of homegrown lumberyard which was not safe for kids or dogs, and not at all attractive. See photos for view from our window. And finally for some reason our site was in a *serious* lemon ant trail (not food-ants), they came up all four corners of our trailer. The owner came out and sprayed around out site, stating ‘this always happens at this particular site at certain times of the year…’ We lost an entire afternoon trying to de-ant our trailer, with mixed success and even considered leaving early since we never quite got control of it. (several days after and we are still de-anting the trailer.) given that it was a known thing It would have been appropriate to comp a night or offer to move us. Note that our site had a small fire pit and no table, which may also help for those planning. That said, it was a short drive to Milo McIver State Park which we really enjoyed.
Not ready for prime time.
We arrived at the site in our 24 foot motorhome expecting something much different. What we found was no host on site initially, nothing marked as to what campsites were where, lots of boards from logging everywhere. When we plugged into the electric source we heard a loud bang and fried a breaker. Water is basically a hose, electric is by plugging into their extension cord. Our site $60 per night was a spot in their driveway. We ended up staying at our friends site and were partially credited after complaining to the owner. Not a good experience.
Fantastic hosts and location!
We stayed for one night, and the whole way home we talked about how unexpectedly amazing our trip was. Hosts are great, kind, accommodating, helpful, and gracious. The camp ground is gorgeous and clean! I am hesitant to say too much because we want the site for ourselves ;)
10/10 will stay again.
Beautiful setting! They’ve done a lot of special things to the property. Very helpful owners- parked our trailer for us. Couldn’t have done that on our own. Kinda tricky backing into that spot.
Lovely river property!
We last minute booked the rv spot and a car/tent spot for one night so that we could get out of the house. It was very convenient! We pulled up and Neil was quick to navigate us and hooked my RV up to power. We felt very comfortable quickly as Neil showed us around and we met their two sweet dogs. They are in the process of moving a few things around on the property but it’s about ready and will make their amazing property even more amazing! They didn’t miss a detail! The communal kitchen was stocked and each area had it’s own fire pit even though the main one was super rad! Neil even started it for us with a pretty cool trick! Neil and Michelle were great hosts who came to check on us every once in a while but also gave us our privacy as well. I kept asking them to hang out so they probably got tired of me 😂 the river will be so nice to hang at in the summer and their pond with grass area for tents is flat and open. We will be booking all the sites soon for a larger group campout.
