Our stay at Oregon Desert Stars was fantastic. Carissa was very welcoming with her two large dogs (they were so sweet). She showed us around the property and we chose a great spot to pitch our tent. Enough room for several RVs, water and electric hookup too. The night sky was beautiful and we were serenaded by the pack of coyotes in the distance.
Host's dog barked until 2 a.m.
I pulled up to the parking area as directed and was immediately greeted by the host's two large dogs, one of which jumped up onto the door repeatedly, making it difficult to exit the vehicle. The area is mostly dirt/sand, with shrubs and numerous red ant hills, that made it somewhat difficult to place a tent without being in the range of the ants. The biggest issue, and the reason I only stayed one night instead of the two nights I had booked, was the constant presence of the younger of the two host's dogs. The dog does not have proper people manners, constantly jumping up on myself and my 5-year old. The dog attempted to steal food out of my 5-year old's hands and get into my car, looking for food. I did not feel safe leaving my son to play near the tent or the bench, because of the dog. The final straw came when night fell and the dog began barking. It barked and barked and even though I texted the host to ask them to do something about it, after about 10 minutes of quiet, the barking started again and did not stop until 2 A.M.! The dog then began barking again around 6 a.m. and practically tore the screen on my tent, attempting to get in with us! This is unacceptable and not at all what had been advertised. I expect a host to have well-mannered animals when they are allowed to interact with guests and this was very obviously not the case.
Carissa was such a welcoming host! It was interesting to see the hard work she has pyt into her home! The camp site was peaceful and secluded - except for the occasional greeting from one of her dogs, Buck. The porta-potty was very clean and the water was a welcomed benefit! We had such a great time shooting our guns, letting our dog explore, and listening to the coyotes!
Carissa was awesome! She showed us where everything was on site, and even gave us some recommendations on what to do around town. Her dogs were also super friendly and would come say hi every once in a while.
This place is amazing, the sunset and stars at night were out insane. It's a nice quiet place to get away. I would definitely come back!
It was super quiet. The stars were amazing! Cleanest port-a-potty I've seen! Host was very accommodating when we needed to problem solve.
Didn't find out until we were on the way there the site is completely off grid, and they didn't have enough solar panels to support our trailer, and we didn't bring a generator. Not the best set up for trailers or RV's. Better suited for tent camping.
