Mike stumbled across this gorgeous piece of property for sale when he was rock climbing daily at Smith Rock in the 80s, when the birth of sport climbing happened here. At that time the property became a haven for international climbers camping in the yard, sometimes 60 at a time. The author of the main rock climbing guide book still used today owes his access to put up and document routes by staying here. Mike then started Timberline Mountain Guides and Smith Rock Climbing School here, selling the business to pursue outdoor photography and videography. In 2000 he started the website SmithRock.com to serve the climbing community. Marcia took it over in the past few years to expand it to a 200+ page site that serves all of the adventurers who come here. They both continue to hike and climb in the park weekly, never tiring of the view.
