20 years ago James and Patricia purchased land that had been logged multiple time, and built a house to raise a family, and watch the forest regrow. James loves trains and this area had a logging operation in the early 1900's that included railroads, donkey engines and logging camps in the area. In the 1980's several 10 to 20 acre parcels were sold to people who wanted a piece of the country life. James and Patricia now live on one of those parcels and look forward to the next generation enjoying the country life. When James and Patricia bought the property, the previous owner had cut down most of the trees and would mow most of the land. The land was allowed to recover with alder being the first forest which replenished the soil. In a few areas scotch broom (invasive plants) took hold. Not wanting to use toxic chemicals that could leach into the water supply getting rid of scotch broom was a challenge but now there is large meadow with baby Christmas trees growing (marked by the red flags). In many other places douglas fir has planted itself along with new cedar trees. There is beautiful undergrowth that includes thimble berry, Oregon grape, candy stripe and many other wild plants. There is red huckleberry growing in various places and makes a great snack when they are ripe. Speaking of wild, there is a lot wildlife here. Several species of birds live here including family of humming birds. Sometimes you will see grouse, geese, ducks, swallows, red tail hawks, even a glimpse of a bald eagle. There are wild bunnies, gardener snakes, frogs, salamanders. If you go along the trails you might see signs of deer or coyote. There are currently 2 horses and a llama that are living in the back half of the property. Sometimes Larry the llama comes out for a visit. He is shy on not really domesticated but like all llama's curious. There are chickens that live near the garage and garden (that's why dogs must be on leash). There are hiking trails through forest land. Wake in the morning to birds singing, and fall asleep to the frogs in the pond. Clear nights and you can see a lot of stars. During the right season there are blackberries, red huckleberries and thimble berries. The Banks-Vernonia Linear trail State park and LL Stub Stewart are both near this beautiful little space. Firepit, private. There is a patio campfire pit at the campsite. $5 per bundle of firewood available for purchase onsite. In order to minimize spread of wood parasites we ask that you use firewood we provide and not bring wood.

Composting toilet. Due to Covid-19 Please bring your own TP so you will not be using a roll someone else has used.

Pets allowed

On leash. There are horses, chickens, a dog and cats on property. We also have baby trees trying to grow that are easily trampled if not aware. Please keep the number of guest dogs to 2, we are not set up for large numbers of extra animals.

My first Hipcamp experience!

Fab, relaxing tent camping. My late August trip had only a few mosquitoes, but many butterflies and dragonflies. James & Patricia came up to greet me after I had set up camp. Really kind, genuine folk. Composting toilet didn’t smell strongly at all. Every now and then there was some traffic noise on the gravel road leading up to the location, going by during the day. Mostly quiet, especially at night. A jug of potable water and the firewood I had requested was at the site when I arrived. Instructions are in a mailbox next to the small parking area. I was a little confused by the map at first to find the site. The trailhead is at the small parking lot and mailbox. I really enjoyed my time here. Thank you so much!

Loved our stay here. nice queit spot in the woods with near to the water, though don't swim. Met james and he warned how deep it was. Otherwise great night. We were greated by a couple deer in the morning as we made breakfast. Truly a unique space.

Truly Serene

Serenity is a short walk from your vehicle, so if your setup relies on the use of your tailgate as a counter, then you'll welcome the table provided. Our hosts provided a sizable tank of well water too, and we were happy not to have to sacrifice our drinking water for dishwashing. Initially dubious of the included 8x8 shade canopy, I was especially grateful for it when surprised by a midnight downpour. The setting is private and feels sufficiently isolated, the shush of a gravel roadway rarely louder than the music of the frog pond. One little frog even visited me at the convenient, odorless loo. Other than passive birds, we met no other wildlife. The few white trees around the flat, level ground offered ideal spacings for tent, fly, clothesline, and hammock. Stickers, nettles, and mosquitoes are low in number: Not so many as to be a nuisance, yet just enough to feel natural. Recommend.

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful refuge

Beautiful space with lush grasses and colorful flowers. Camp with toilet is a short walk up the trail. Camp was wonderfully quiet, and the sky was full of stars every night! James and Patricia were attentive to every need, and very friendly. We had so much in common it was uncanny!

The camping site was serene and private. James greeted us, bringing a wheelbarrow to help get our things up the path to it. You should be prepared to rough it, as there is no electric or water, and there is a composting toilet, but it worked fine for us. The stars were stunning.

James and Patricia were very nice to host me last minute. The place is very quiet and clean. It did fit my van but it’s best for a tent. I hesitated a minute to put up my tent to enjoy a great spot but was a bit on a schedule and slept in the van. Recommended

We hosted a small retreat on this beautiful campsite. The space was private and serene and we saw blue jays, a baby duck, and woodpecker. They had all the amenities we needed and we loved the small trails surrounding the area. We would definitely host a daylong retreat here again.

We loved the location! It was very spacious with an above ground fire pit and a provided canopy. There was a pond right off the site and was a fun addition to our stay. The camp hosts checked in a couple times, they were very nice but also gave us space. We definitely recommend this site!

Semi-rustic: Just what we needed!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3-day weekend at Coast Range Serenity! The spot was clean and offered quiet and calm respite. The wild blackberries were ripe and ready for the picking. We saw chickadees, grossbeaks, Stellar's Jay, crows, a blue heron, woodpeckers, robins, hummingbirds and gold finches. Also, the star-gazing was amazing. Three clear nights made for hours of time looking at the Milky Way and constellations. If you go, know that this is a semi-rustic site. Use common sense and follow the hosts instructions to ensure a pleasant experience. We will definitely plan to return!!

We had a great time camping at James and Patricia's space. There was evidence of bear activity on the property, so we kept all of our food and toiletries in the car overnight to be safe. A quiet spot with nice shady trees!

I loved how convenient this was for the price. 1 hour from the coast, nestled amongst the forest. Canopy, fire pit, compost toilet, drinking water all provided by James and Patricia who are so kind and accommodating. Set your tent up next to the cute pond. Great price, even when adding on a bundle of firewood from the land for only $5.

Quiet place. Feels private. Open area for excellent stargazing, and also trees for shade. Nice mix. The parking area can fit 2 cars very snugly. The path from the parking to the site is a little longer than I expected but it’s an easy walk and wide path. Easy to navigate w a headlamp in the dark. Like another review mentioned, the composting toilet is a bit rough. It’s walls are a tarp, and there are some instructions about aerating it prior to opening the lid. The bar/handle used to aerate is somewhat stiff and challenging to move.
