If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
Wonderfully warm and welcoming hosts. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Plenty of space an privacy. When we needed suggestions on where to go during the day they had all the inside information on hidden swimming holes and other local secrets. We would totally stay here again!
We had a lovely stay on Christopher’s property! Our group consisted of three adults, eight children, and a dog.. we came out see the meteor shower, and this sweet hilltop was just perfect. It was far from any town (great for stargazing!), but easy to find. We had a large campsite with multiple spaces for pitching tents. Sweet kitchen and dining area, a privy, fire pit, lots of roaming space and junipers (and chipmunks!).. they provided plenty of potable water.. and the common areas included a solar-powered bath-house (hot shower), a little “saloon” with plenty of games and puzzles, and fresh, hot coffee in the morning. Christopher and his daughter are very comfortable and knowledgeable and made us all feel at home.
we had an awesome time camping here and will certainly be back. chris was a great host with lots of stories to share. we could have talked to him all day. he gave us privacy but was incredibly helpful and full of knowledge about the central oregon area and beyond. the campsites are maintained and clean with awesome handmade structures all around. there’s a clean outhouse nearby, a warm shower, communal fire pit, and even a saloon. theres books and games available, obsidian chunks for collecting, chipmunks for chasing, and a big sky full of bright stars. thanks for having us!
Secluded star gazers paradise!
The stargazer site was amazing! We ended up showing up around midnight due to work running late but we were still able to find it, and once we got there we saw the milky way, planets, shooting stars, and meteorites! The sote was clean and very private, i was shocked at how quiet it was as i am used to camping in state parks! The shower was warm and had a view of the stars out the big windows (they do have curtains if youre shy) the bathroom pit toilette was not bad, better than county park pit toilets! They had geo caches all around and everywhere you looked there was something new to see! I highly reccomend this site and we will be back again!
We had a great stay at the aurora..
We had a great stay at the Aurora... the wildlife, land, and most of all hosts were fabulous and we’ll definitely be going back! My boys had a great time watching the abundant lizards and chipmunks. They also were thrilled searching out geocaches. Coffee and hot chocolate. Lovely! Thanks Windance and Mariah!
Western, rustic and comfortable
This is our second time camping at Aurora Outfitters and we feel like each time will always be amazing and unique in their own ways. The property is full of breathtakingly stunning views every which way you look- wild juniper and pine forests, the cascade mountains, epic sunsets, and the brightest stars I’ve ever seen.
We experienced a rainstorm that brought thunderstorms one of the nights we were there and the energy in the air was just magical. We purchased firewood from the hosts that burns amazingly and we just weathered it out and had a great time. The first night was exceptionally clear and we enjoyed stargazing the quiet night skies.
There’s something about this place that makes you want to stay for awhile, and return again. We brought our friend from Finland to explore the area and she particularly enjoyed the campground. She kept saying that every time she looked around, she would notice something new and interesting. The hosts are very amicable and easygoing and super helpful with giving out local travel info. Winddance and Moriah are a fun father-daughter duo who are super easy to communicate with. We spent our days exploring Smith Rock and The Painted Hills. Winddance recommended we travel via the crooked river scenic route which google would have not taken us and we are thankful we did because it too was gorgeous and many stops along the way to recreate on the water or just stare at the awe of this beautiful river.
There’s a saloon, coffee/tea breakfast area , and awesome bathroom with hot water to boot. The sites have toilets and cool Desert structures to hang around at that remind me a little of a western cowboy Style. This place feels both remote and rustic and comfortable and cozy at the same time. We are hoping to return there again soon.
