Pitch your tent within the 1 acre cleared area of the coastal forest. There is a big fire pit for all parties to gather around. A covered common area in case the rains come in. Tables and chairs available. The night time is filled with beautiful stars and solar lights all around the property. The daytime, you are creekside with a bridge to take you over to a shaded deck for the adults to gather and watch the kids play in the creek.

This was a good spot to pull off for the night and catch up on sleep in a secluded area. It's surrounded by a few interesting sites and has close access to the road leading to the ocean. I'd recommend this place for anyone needing a quick spot to pull off and stay the night in your tent or car!
I booked my stay very last minute. I was able to meet Paul right before he left and he was extremely nice and accommodating. I had the site to myself which was awesome and sucked at the same time. It was awesome bc it was really nice and such a cool location. The only reason I say it sucked is bc it would be such a neat place to spend with other people with what the site has to offer. There is a small stage, a bench to relax on the other side of the creek, a hiking trail, and a nice fire pit. I would absolutely go back by myself and with other people. I love finding cool little campgrounds and this is at the top of my list!
Chuchonny Hoof was a beautiful campsite that exceeded our expectations. From the composting toilet, to the functioning kitchen, we had everything we needed and wanted.
Lots of privacy
Creek access and river nearby
Great for groups
Things to think about: one set of directions using gps took our friends down a road that ended up being closed a quarter mile from site... only travel down Salmonberry from hwy 34.
There’s a country dog that spends a great deal of time at site. We hope this dog has a forever home somewhere!
There’s a considerable amount of bees and wasps. If you’re not nervous about it, they mostly leave you alone!
All in all, we loved this site and will use it again!!!
This campground is awesome. It has a large camping area and an outdoor kitchen with electricity and and a huge community fire pit. There is a creeks running through the campground and some peaceful sanctuary areas. There is a river right down the road with excellent swimming areas. The only thing I can say that was difficult was getting there. GPS will likely take you the wrong way and you could be driving around for hours trying to find the campsite. This campsite could be improved by more detailed directions. If you have started driving down some rough roads and see closed gates that is not he way to the campsite. Go back to the main road going through town and make sure you drive past the mercantile grocery store. Your gps should take you there after that. Once you know your way it's very easy to find and get into this campground.
We really enjoyed our stay at Chuchonnyhoof. We hung out with Paul and his family around the campfire the second night and had a great time. Our dog ran around freely with his dog and they had way too much fun. The place is quite eclectic with several structures on site and a sweet outdoor toilet rig. We hope to stop by the next time we’re in the area. I will say, don’t follow Siri’s directions. She’ll get you lost. Just follow Paul’s directions. They’ll get ya there. Anyhoo, definitely recommend the place.
