The preserve was a fantastic place to spend the night on our way west. Jill was a great host - we contacted her VERY late in the day not really expecting to secure the booking, but we received a response in a matter of minutes confirming our request. And even though we didn't arrive and check in until 9pm, she met us at the office, showed us to the site, made sure we had plenty of fresh water at the site, AND had a campfire already simmering. What's more, even though we could tell she hadn't quite finished up her farm chores for the night, she took time to show us around the terrarium. We got to see and hold the geckos, turtles, snakes and spiders - it was great! We enjoyed our time here and will most definitely be staying at the preserve again when our travels bring us through the area. Thanks!
This was such an unexpected treasure. We stayed longer than planned because the campsite was great, our kids were having so much fun and the host was more than accommodating. We loved it and will be back!
We loved this campground!!
A group of us were going rafting in Tahlequah and we're looking for a less crowded place to camp since the river was packed for labor day weekend. We weren't completely sure what to expect, but we were really excited when we got there. The grounds were very well kept, shady, and private. A short walk away, there was a small house with a bathroom (including shower) and a refrigerator. They provided trash cans, firewood, and even eggs for breakfast. You can hear the animals from the petting zoo but they weren't close enough to be disruptive or anything. We would definitely come stay again!
The petting zoo itself was also really awesome! Jill let us come over and feed and hold the animals. She had way more animals than we expected, and we really loved the reptile and small mammal room.
Camped out for a few days with my family. We had a great time Jill was very kind and tentative. The area was very nice great for the trip. There’s also a nice petting zoo and a few places to fish. Jill brought us some sleeping bags to use and a few eggs and cookies. I defenitly will be going back again! I highly recommend for camping.
This place is amazing! Jill was so kind and welcoming, and gave us a free private tour of her beautiful petting zoo. Tons of cool animals who all seem happy and well cared for. The campground and facilities were new and well maintained - we could not have asked for more!
Amazing. top of the line. wonderful
I highly recommend this campsite to anyone who loves to go camping and likes to be off the beaten path. Jill is absolutely amazing. As well as her husband. Fantastic hosts through everything. I came up here for two nights as soon as I arrived Jill came up help me find my Camp spot and then proceeded to give me The Grand tour. I had noticed that I could do camping at Lake Tenkiller for around $6 cheaper but anytime I'm back in this area I'm heading here. The animals are cute and lovable. Very much enjoyed the petting zoo. Especially the baby donkey. The campsites are amazingly kept up. I believe she has about 10 campsites and each one is available for about 2 tents. the fishing pond was fantastic. She has a canoe that you can take out into the pond do some fishing. She even supplies fishing poles if you want to do a little fishing and just forgot your rod and reel. I ended up catching three Bass. I can guarantee you that anybody who I come into contact with and we talked about camping I'm mentioning Gates Nature Preserve. Thank you Jill for being so kind and being one of the nicest campus I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.
The best camping we have ever had!
The stay here was absolutely amazing!! Jill and Will, the hosts, were very generous and hospitable. Jill came by and gave us fresh eggs for the morning.
It really felt like we were staying with family. They always checked on us to make sure we were doing okay and asked if we needed anything. This will be our camping site for as long as they will let us stay! I recommend this place to anyone and any family.
