About Buffalo Dream Ranch Camping
We love Hipcamp, but the software does not allow us enough control over how a property and campsites are presented. The two photos on this page, for example, were taken by someone else. We don't like them but can't change them.
A quick guide to picking a site:
Site 1: The Creek campsite. Most popular and most wind protected
Site 2: Cottonwood Grove. Large and open. Popular with larger groups
Site 3: Baker View, on another parcel. Large, open, big views
Pick a site that fits your needs. You'll be free to change to another site after arriving, as long as it isn't already booked.
For larger groups 7 to 13 book two sites for the number of days you will stay. You can then choose to all stay in one larger site around one fire pit if so desired.
Buffalo Dream Ranch is a multi-parcel ranch with diverse terrain in the Wichita Mountains region of Southwest Oklahoma.
We offer camping that is NOT 'suburban' in nature, as each campsite is stand alone and far apart. You campsite will be private and surrounded by a buffer of many acres of interesting terrain.
Our campsites are not strictly primitive but have varying degrees of development. We typically stock a booked campsite with firewood (small fee), potable water is available nearby. At the ranch headquarters is a full bathroom to fall back on.
We are good base from which to visit the interesting geology and terrain of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge (the most visited WMA in the nation), Medicine Park, Meers, and many large lakes. The wider area includes the Quartz Mountains, Ft. Sill/Lawton, Altus and Altus Air Force base, Hobart, and may other small towns.

The vibe at Buffalo Dream Ranch Camping
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We stayed two nights at the ranch over Memorial Day weekend and had a wonderful time. Chris and Claire were excellent hosts – they were very accommodating and friendly, providing directions to the nearby Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge from their property and setting up a wonderful camping spot next to the creek that runs through the parcel. There is much more exploring to do than could be accomplished in two days, so we only saw a small portion of the property, which affords fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and beautiful, natural scenery. We will most definitely be returning whenever a break from city life and some peace and quiet is needed. Thank you, Chris and Claire!
Stayed the weekend at the ranch. We stayed in our tent at a site right beside the creek. It was perfect. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was within walking distance to the headquarters too. Claire and Chris were very friendly and accommodating. There were a lot of birds singing in the mornings, and we enjoyed a firefly show around the creek at night. We fell asleep listening to the crickets and the stream bubbling. We walked a little on the property to explore the creek and nearby pond. We also took one day to explore the nearby Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. All were absolutely gorgeous. We will definitely be back again. One of our new favorite places!
This was our third stay at the ranch and, as usual, we had a great time. We brought two kids with us this time, so we stayed in a new, more open spot, and it was very nice. Chris and Claire have put a lot of hard work into making the camping areas very welcoming and comfortable. We have nothing but praise for these two and their beautiful land. We'll definitely be back, come spring time!
Chris, Clair and Aeron are amazing host. The property is beautiful and surrounded buy mountains. The campsites are clean and great spots. I couldn't have been happier and plan to return soon. If you are traveling in the area, its the best place to go!
Scott and Claire's place is truly something special. If you're wanting a unique Wichita Mountains experience, definitely stay here! The campsite was secluded, quiet, and near a stream--a total dream. Scott and Claire were also incredibly hospitable. HIGHLY recommend! We'll definitely be back.
Chris and Claire's land is breathtaking. Ancient rocks litter the gorgeous stream, and gentle- souled, curious cattle play nearby. This is a wonderful place to camp off the beaten path, away from urban style type camping. They provide a home- bouldered fire pit, firewood (THANK YOU SO MUCH), table, log and cozy boulder to sit on, maybe even a hammock.
The bathroom is just a short distance walk from the site (s). The wildlife is fantastic- you'll be camping amongst many different homes. Chris and Claire were extremely welcoming and my group took a lot from our stay. If you want a truly humbling, peaceful, beautiful camping experience this is the place to go!!! I can't wait to go back!
