Awesome lake! great tent camping :)
This site was wonderful! We booked the entire site and camped for two nights with a group of friends. We particularly enjoyed the LAKE (very fun for swimming/boating/fishing and it's awesome to have a private dock). The bathroom is inside of a very nice horse barn and was well stocked and clean. The land is sloped but was still suitable for tent camping. The hosts, Montez and Teresa, were very welcoming and gave us a thorough orientation. They were available to answer our questions, but gave us all the privacy we needed. The countryside is lovely, it was a scenic drive in. There is a gated area that dogs can run off leash. The site was maintained very meticulously--- well mowed, very tidy, and thoughtfully prepared. There was a lot of space to spread out, plenty of parking. Overall a really great stay!
Lake camping in the country
Excellent spot to camp. Lake is great with easily accessible private dock. We brought our inflatable kayaks and some floats. The host and his wife were only a text away, being available but giving as much privacy as you’d like. The clean, spacious and well stocked bathroom in the barn is a huge bonus.
Our family had the best time at the Whispering Wolf Ranch. Montez was an ideal host: great with communication and accommodating during our stay. We loved spending time in the lake, as well as having plenty of room for our family to spread out in the field and enjoy a long weekend camping together. In addition to a fire pit, bonfire area, and grill, there were also three picnic tables. The private bathroom was great, too.
My family met at Whispering Wolf Ranch for a long weekend. It was my mom's first time camping. The camp was easy to find and it was perfect for our 3 families to camp together, but have enough space to spread out. The camping field was clean with a nice campfire area and 3 picnic tables as well as a grill and garbage. We didn't bring our dogs, but there was a nice dog run. The bathroom was fantastic in the barn with running water, lights, a fan, and super close to the campsite. The lake was the highlight of the trip. It was sooooooo hot and swimming in the lake was awesome!! The kids also enjoyed fishing on the dock too. We hiked at nearby Mayo Lake Park and had a lovely weekend!! The hosts were wonderful as well.
Nice spot by the lake!
We had a great time camping at the lake with friends and the host was very nice. The lake access is superb and we had some gorgeous time on the lake! We were able to put in our floats and kayaks at the dock and float to our hearts' content. You can fish off the dock (although our group didn't have any luck catching anything). We also did some swimming, but you have to make your way over some 'seaweed' until you get to the deeper parts (and I never put my feet down : ) Having a big clean stocked bathroom and access to potable water was really super. While the campsite description is accurate, I would note a few things that might be helpful to future campers. 1. The tent camping site is open and I would feel awkward had there been campers from outside my group there. 2. The tent site is separate from the parking area. We prefer to camp out of our car so it is much more convenient for us if we can park in the same spot we are camping. 3. The neighbors have a large dog (German Sheperd?) that found its way through the fence to the campsite. We were warned by the host that the dog may be aggressive, so while he didn't bother us and we left him alone, we were glad we did not have any of our dogs with us and none of our kids ran up to try and pet him! 4. While there is privacy fencing and trees and we didn't really see any of the neighbors the camp site is in a place where there are homes surrounding it so you will hear the neighbors if they are out, but it is not dissimilar to being in a campsite with other campers around! 5. There may be boats available to rent from the host, but bring life jackets for you and your kids if you will need them! Hope this help you know what to expect so you can thouroughly enjoy your time camping at Montez's place!
Overall if you are looking for a getaway with no close contact with other people, this is a great option. The host was super nice and around if you needed him and we didn’t see another person the entire three days we were there. We were a bit taken aback when we first arrived as the description said the campsite is "nestled in the forest on the bank of Mayo Lake". That may be a bit of a stretch. Though there were plenty of trees around, especially as you got closer to the lake, the campsite is technically nestled between three rural residential properties. Two of the three houses were closer than we would have liked. One had a tall wood fence between the site and the house which we were thankful for, but the other house, presumably the host's, did not allow for a ton of privacy. We were able to position our three tents in a way that felt pretty private, but if there were more tents, it would have been difficult. Because the site was almost completely enclosed with a (non working) electric fence we weren’t able to access the trees for hanging tarps and hammocks, which was unfortunate, especially because it rained a lot. Though we were initially a bit disappointed that we only had access to the small “private” portion of Mayo Lake (no way to get under the bridge to access the rest of it), it was quite lovely and nearly undeveloped, which was nice. It was perfect for fishing and kayaking with literally no boat traffic. There was a restroom close by in a barn, designated just for the campsite, which was great, though a shower would have been really nice. Overall a nice stay, especially if you don’t want to stress about sharing toilet facilities, like you would at a campground.
We had a great weekend hanging out by the lake!! A great place to socially distance with friends & dogs. The dog pen is very handy & the bathroom is quite nice. Montez was very responsive & helpful. The house is close, but trees/fences make it feel very private.
Great stay for a small group
We booked this site for a small gathering of friends and had a fantastic weekend. The site is a little more over looked than the pictures would suggest but apart from some neighbors coming and going we didn't feel too overlooked. Montez was a great host. He met us the moment we arrived and gave us all the information we needed and made everyone feel welcome when interacting with us. The site itself is very well maintained and overall the group really enjoyed our weekend. If you are looking for a camping site that has a little bit of everything without being too far off the beaten track - this is for you!
We had a wonderful time and the campsite. We had lots of room and there were several amenities that made our trip comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate and the dock was perfect for swimming and boating.
