We are located in a beautiful rural valley along the Broad River between Black Mountain and Chimney Rock and within a 25 minute ride to Asheville. Rise Up began in the spring of 2011 after taking over a botanical nursery and now operates a large greenhouse, a hoop house, and outdoor gardens where seasonal organic produce is grown. We are a host farm for the WWOOF international organization and welcome those interested in learning about organic gardening, permaculture and more! . The land is riparian along the river, with pasture and nice tent sites(think car camping for now) along the river. Close by hiking to waterfalls for summer fun is a plus and is a short drive from the farm. There is also great hiking nearby in the Hickory Nut Gorge near Gerton, NC and of course miles of trails at Chimney Rock and Rumbling Bald. Getting the land set up for quality camping stays along the river is a work in progress and when finished we will offer a nice spot that's surrounded by beautiful edible gardens of veggies, herbs, and fruits, along with lots of bee flower plantings. In the meanwhile, camping in the pasture along the river is the best! Again, we welcome your help during your stay with us. Thanks for your interest in our budding project here at Rise Up Rooted.

Rise Up Rooted Farm and River Camp
Tom and Zeke were fantastic and welcoming hosts! The farm is located in a fabulous area of NC amongst not only beautiful land but sincerely wonderful people. The spot by the river was exactly as I anticipated and we couldn't have been any happier with the trip. Soothing noise from the rush of the river just steps from the tent; table space and fire pit make camp comfortable; access to good water was a major plus; last but not least - having a hammock already in place was definitely a bonus. Enjoyed going to town several times (everyone is very on board and embraces canine visitors - more so than many other places which was a bonus), of course dining at Straight Away, and general exploring. A special treat was a lovely Sunday afternoon at Turgua Brewery - immensely friendly people, a lovely little space, and some tasty treat beers. The weather was perfect in September for enjoying Phil's saison offerings. Bring a picnic and settle in for a spell. Those that gather don't stay strangers for long ~ everyone is especially welcoming. This was a my inaugural HC trip and it was truly spot on. I loved knowing I had a place to land (especially heading out on a Saturday) and having some comforts @ camp. This is something I will absolutely do again and would not hesitate one moment recommending Tom's farm. I almost always go the dispersed camping route in GA...but HipCamp could spoil me!

We had a wonderful stay! Camping right by the river under the harvest moon was fantastic. Tom was a gracious host. I only wish we would have had time to explore his gardens more. Great location between Black Mountain and Ashville.

Amazing space!! Tom was a great host! Tons of useful information about the property and nearby hikes, restaurants, etc. He had a campfire already going for us upon arrival (around 7:45 pm on a Friday), chairs set up, a comfy hammock, and hula hoops! We set up the tent between the fire ring and river and slept like the dead to the sound of the water. Great swimming and relaxing - can't wait to visit again!

Rise Up Rooted Farm and River Camp
My fiancĂŠ and I rented a Scamper Van out of Atlanta for the weekend, came up for a concert in Asheville and really wanted a great spot to camp out that was close enough to town and still far enough to get a real camping experience. Tom has the perfect place. A real functioning flower, foods and roots farm, great location with river running along the campsite (complete with perfect secluded island area where we enjoyed early light yoga), set back near the trees but plenty of open space for our pooches to play - Tom's and our doggies had so much fun together! Firewood, hammock, fishing poles, covered picnic table, hula hoops! Really, this place is a treasure. Tom is an awesome host too; great communication and available even when not present and was even so kind as to send us on our way with fresh tomatoes! Tom gave us a great tip: just a few mins away is a tiny local farmhouse craft brewery and tap room - Turgua at Firefly Hollow - we absolutely loved it and will return! Cannot wait to make another opportunity to stay up at Rise Up Rooted Farm & River Camp again.

Rise Up Rooted Farm and River Camp
It rained 😔. But our host made everything better! When we arrived Tom was all ready to mow wherever we would like to camp. He helped some beginner campers (us) set up our tent. Even let us use his personal grill! Then to top it all off gave us tips on the local sites and fresh veggies.

Rise Up Rooted Farm and River Camp
Tom is a great host and Rise Up Rooted Farm is a great place to camp. When we arrived Tom had the space ready for us and was busy splitting firewood for us to use as it had been wet. It's a great spot with plenty of options where to camp. We camped next to the river and close to the fire pit. There was a good mix of shade, fire pit with firewood, grill and picnic table, and access to the river beach where our kids enjoyed many swims. Other facilities included a composting Porta-Jon and access to spring water. We found the host, Tom very welcoming allowing us access to all parts of the farm and the kids enjoyed helping pick garlic and other herbs from the produce growing there. The farms location is ideal for accessing nearby hiking trails, Black Mountain, Lake Lure, etc. We couldn't recommend highly enough Rise Up Rooted Farm.
